Default arp rod bolt rounded off when torquing

so i was installing my arp rod bolts following the instructions torquing them to 45ft/lbs and then loosening them and torquing them again then loosening them and torquing them one last time and on my second round one of the bolts rounded off on me... i used a 10mm 12pt socket and torqued 4 other rods completely before this happened...

its rounded off to the point where im gonna have to use a punch on the edge of it to back it out...

should arp send me a new one? or is it my fault?

i did everything according to instructions and it still rounded off on me...

i ordered them from scoggin dickey they just came in today and this happened... what should i do?

Was it a name brand socket in good condition you were using?

I would call ARP and see what they say. If the socket was good, then there must be something wrong with he fastener, or your torque wrench.

ohh sorry! well i only use snap on, mac, matco sockets. but i'm a diesel technician though so having quality tools pays off. if a 12 pt. is worn any at all its very likely to slip. i try to get any worn 12 pt stuff replaced as soon as i can

Are you sure it wasn't a 3/8" 12 point bolt head? Ive never replaced the rod bolts on the LS1 so I dont know the size of the bolt.

I had that happen to me when I was taking them out.

Had to weld on to the bolt to get it out. I rounded out one of the bolts in the middle of the head under the rocker cover, sucked pretty bad

ARP hardware for the LS motors seems to change a little. Some things are metric and some are standard. Every bolt in my engine/flywheel/clutch that hold something that spins or moves is ARP and some are standard while others are metric. I have ARP rod bolts as well but I bought the engine with them so I dont know for certain they are one or the other.

If he used a 10mm socket, a 3/8 would not fit. he would never get the bolts to torque. I will call up ARP tomorrow and see what can be done. Is there anything off the blister card (card the bolts came on) i hope you saved it. There are some numbers on there that help them know what batch it is from. They have this down to a science. Let me know. Otherwise it looks like either filing it down to a 6 point, using a bolt out, welding on it, or drilling/punching it out. it will have to be a VERY good punch, those bolts are hard as a petrified cow turd.

I'm pretty sure they are a 3/8" 12 point. It's been a while since I put mine in, but I'm sure I had to borrow a socket. Which tells me it's most likely 3/8" because I don't own too much in the line of SAE tools.

They are 3/8" 12 point. I know because I started with a 10mm and the first bolt I did the socket spun - luckily no damage to the bolt though.

I installed the high performance ones a few days ago. It's a 3/8 12-point bolt head. I was kind of confused too when the 10mm was loose. IIRC, the stock bolts weren't metric either. I think they were 7/16?
