Whining Noise After Installing Lid
I just helped my buddy install an MTI lid on his '98 bone stock T/A the other day. After we started it back up, it made a loud whining sound (kind of like a fuel pump or something mechanical) from the driver side of the engine bay. It now does this every time you start it up, but goes away after about 30 seconds or so. It is hard to pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from since it only lasts for a little bit. I have done lid swaps on several f-bodies, but have never heard this sound before. Then again, all the ones I did were 2000 and up models, don't know if that makes any difference though Has anyone else experienced this problem.

no its basically for emissions, you can delete it all together just pull the air pump fuse, disconnect the hoses going to the exhaust manifolds, cap the manifolds, and take the whole pump assembly out.

nothing they run up to your exhaust manifolds, one on the drivers manifold and other on the passenger manifold then back to the air pump. If u wana make sure its the air pump pull the fuse and see if the noise goes away.

It's a completely normal part of starting up a stock engine. Nothing to worry about, although a lot of people remove the AIR system. It's function is to heat the CATs up to operating temperature fast.
If you go to headers and no CATs then you want to remove it. Otherwise, it only works when you start the car and is off before you even get out of the driveway.

I pulled the fuse and the noise did in fact go away. So...is it better to just put the fuse back in, leave it alone and let it do its thing (noise and all), or are there any actual benefits to turning it off? Also, is it ok to just pull the fuse and leave it be, or will I eventually have to remove it all and plug up the manifolds to do it right?
