Yes, I am getting only 200 miles off a full tank and this is while driving granny style, shifting at 2,000 rpm. A friend of mine says he gets 240 off a full tank and he has an auto, and another friend claims he gets 300 miles off his 6 speed. Why am I getting such crappy mpg?

Car has 26,000 original miles, and previous owner said he installed flowmasters.

that doesnt sound right to me. i get 200 when i really hammer it, 240-50 driving normally, and if i push it i get 300. and i have an A4

I get 300-350 if I drive strait highway, but if I drive all my miles around town I only get 200-250. That really depends on what the temperature is outside and how long I let it warm up before I start driving. I DD my car year round in Pittsburgh PA, so some mornings it will idle for 15 min before I actually start going down the road.

you really don't have to let it sit to warm up. I used to do it too.

The main thing is you don't want to get on it when its not up to temp.

I just start mine up and go and by the time I make it to the highway where I may want to open it up, its already warm and I didn't waste a drop of gas letting it sit:):chug:

I get about 350miles, but that's quite a bit of highway.

to the op, how low do you let your tank get before refilling? That can make a big difference. I let mine go till the light comes on or when I'm brave I'll let the line touch the red, then I fill it up all over again:)

Miles per tank? MPG is what really matters.

All city driving With 1-2 quick wot pulls a day 3.73's and 3800 stall I average about 200 miles from a full tank to when the check guages light comes on which = about 13.5 gallons used. So 200mi/13.5ga= 15mpg avg. in town for me...

I don't even think I get 200 miles on my tank. I drive all town though. I have the M6. I thought they got better in town too.

Put mine on the road yesterday and got 324mpg to a tank with me being A4,stall,A/C on because it was hot as hell and wide tires. Now whether those things make a difference save for the stall not sure.

Thats odd that you have such low miles and getting that much miles. Try changing the plugs and wires maybe? I usually avg around 250-300 a tank of gas, mixed city and highway but probably 85% is city driving. I also get on it from time to time. If driving the balls off it all the time I still avg over 200miles to the tank, and thats ALWAYS. I could fill it and go to the track and do 140-150 coming back home on the highway and ill still get a good 200-250miles.. Sometimes wrong there

im not sure, I would say just try a tuneup first with the spark plugs and wires, all that good stuff. I also wanna let you know im a 1998 with 92k miles on the car. So miles don't matter if its running like it should be.

340-360 is more 25ishmpg, but def not 28. I'll tell you how i calculate mine. I fill my tank. Set trip to 0 and I drive. I fill up again.

Check the pump for how many gallons you put in the 2nd time. Check the miles on the trip since the first fill up. say you came out to 312miles and you put in 12.621 gallons. 312miles/14.621gallons=21.33mpg

i get about 19 mpg. that's about 285 miles per tank if you run it all the way to empty. i never let it go below a 1/4 tank though.

that's driving 80% city, accelerating semi-quickly all the time, short WOT pulls here and there, and in an auto

I dont let it sit and warm up so I save the engine, I let it warm up the inside of the car because its f'in freezing outside.

I had a 99 formula with the m6 and all it had done to it was hooker headers and catback with the stock 3:42 gears. I drove across the state wich is all interstate and got over 425 miles to that tank. when I filled up I still had a little less than a 1/8th of a tank. Granted this was grandma driving and the cruise was set at 70 pretty much the whole time.

Noah's95z28
03-21-2009, 04:32 PM
Now with the 95 Z A4 the best I got was like 255 miles to the tank and that was driving easy on it. Thats with 2:73 gears to!! I also average about 220-230 miles to the tank with spirited driving.

You're kidding right? 285 miles city driving?

How can I get better numbers like many of you? Some suggest to have it tuned, but will that really be a night and day difference?

Oh yeah! I had a bad opti on my car so I replaced that with an MSD cap and rotor some MSD 8.5 super conductor wires and bosh platinum plugs and I saw at least 10 miles to the tank better. It also helped when I replaced the stock air intake with C.A.I and added an air foil. If your in a smog exempt state you can hollow out the cat. I did that to mine and it helped performance and mpg.

i've never actually gotten 285 but i typically get 180-190 on 10 gallons. if the tank holds about 15 then it should be approx that.

bolt-ons/plugs/wires/tune probably help a bit. i use cruise control pretty often and check my tire pressure every few weeks. don't use ac all that much either mostly windows. don't really try but somehow i manage to get good mileage.

i actually tried to see if i could break 20mpg once and ended up getting about 14. now i just drive how i feel like it and get 18-19. accelerating really slowly and keeping the rpm's as low as possible doesn't work for me haha.

When my SS was only bolt ons with headers, CAI and exhaust, I would road trip home about 900 miles and I could get over 400 miles to a tank. Once I pushed it and coasted into a filling station having just rolled 460 miles on that tank. That was all highway running an easy 70mph with the A/C with the M6 and stock rear end gears. And normal daily driving I'd get around 320 to 350 miles to a tank.

gettin right around two fifty here on a tank and i never let it go below and eigth a tank and try not to go below a quarter cuz the gas helps to cool the fuel pump and thats not sumthin i wanna change if i dont have to

AR15 guy
03-21-2009, 11:54 PM
Trust me you do not want to change an f-body fuel pump unless you have to lol. It sucks. To clarify I am getting 16-17 mpg with 90% city. That was prior to the K&N filter, slp lid, msd wires and new plugs. Fuel filter is new tho.

When I bough the car I drove it 250 miles home and I still had 1/4 of a tank. That was before any of the maintenance was done. I do have 3.23 gears which hurts the highway mileage a tad. I usually run 80 on the highway as well. I'm sure 70 would be a little better.

This about like mine too. When I drove all highway from Orlando FL back to NY when I bought the car I was getting 340 to a tank. Now though with a mix of city and highway I get between 200-250 depending on how I drive.

That is how I do mine. I'm not sure if my gears threw off my readings, but last time I went to Phoenix (about 300 miles, or more), I got 28 mpg. With some heavy foot action as well, no cruise. I think the gears threw off my stuff though. But I know for a fact, bone stock, I could knock out 22 mixed city/highway (55 mph highway w/ lights).

I fill mine every time the trip reads 150 miles, usually get 9 to 10 gallons in it, so 15mpg or a little better. My gas gauge is stuck at half full so I have to do this or risk running out of gas.

My best ever on my bolt on setup was 360 miles in 1 topped off tank to absolutly empty. Driving at 75 with cruise control on and all highway.

Even with my current setup I get 175+ street drving.

Edit:I have a new personal best of 295 miles with my current setup. That was pretty much all 70-75 mph freeway driving. I did get on it a couple of times as well but not as much as usual.
