Default Alternator wiring, elec guru needed

I did the searches for how to activate the generator after eliminating the PCM. What I found was to run a 470 ohm resistor between the 12v source and B terminal on the alternator plug. I got my resistor and wired it inline. When I test the voltage I still get 12v across the resistor. My wiring from 12v source is as-follows:
Ign pwr(12v) > 470 ohm resistor(got an inline fuse and installed the resistor across the polls) > B term on connector.
Like I said before, I get the same voltage on both sides of the resistor. From the reading I've done, I was expecting to see 7-9 volts.
What am I doing wrong?
