Default Trans Am WS6 vs Monte Carlo SS

Last night I raced an LS1 Trans Am with Full Exhaust and headers 2wice from a dig. Both times, he barely beat me by a 1/4 car length...he couldn't pull on me at all and we probably took it to about 80 or so (maybe a different story if we pushed passed 100). I am diablosport tuned and stock tires that are in serious need of being replaced. I'm surprised I launched as well as I did...he probably did about a 1/10 better in his '60 foot which is why he had the slightest lead. I bet with a normal tune that has TCM support (ahem) and some nice summer tires, I would have taken this victory.

if you were that close on that standard canned tune, you could'a taken him with a custom DiabLew tune!

I would love to race an ls4 car with my gto (use to have a gxp). A 04 should be quicker though even, did he have an a4 or m6? I havent lost yet in the gto, ive beaten an ls1 z, 2srt-4's, 300 srt8, couple mustangs with intake exhaust gears,, and an aveo (ex girlfriends )

Tell ur buddy to get a real intake as that lpe intake is crap. Its a hot air intake...nothing cold about it

I raced my budies LS2 GTO but he had Intake, tune, Headers, Full corsa exhaust with X pipe. Got him off the line to about 20 then he was gone. He put down 370+Whp. He just got a supercharger on it and now make 582wHP

So please think about that before posting flames.

Actually you need to give the ls4 cars more credit than that. I think the ls1 should win, but not easily. I had a GXP and it is still a fast car, and im sure it would still seem fast to me now. I actually got a taste of my first ls1 goat today. I beat it by a few cars, it was an a4 and we were roll racing, but he had no chance.

Well the guy I raced had full exhaust and headers at least (he said so). So I'd imagine he was putting down significantly more than a stock LS1. All I have is a tune and bald tires...

yeah these cars are definately underestimated by the f body crowd i ran my buddy bobs trans am last summer i was bone stock and he had intake Ls6 mani and full exhaust i kept up untill we hit about 85 then he smoked... he was suprised anyway i think as long as we keep the races around an 1/8 mile they dont get as much of a chance for their car to pick up the slack

Well I’ll be dammed this is going a lot more civil than I anticipated. Dam good driving guys. I haven’t had a chance to play with anyone since my last bolt on, but the wife had a G8 GT start picking on her going down the road, so she kept he’s front bumper with her fender till they got stopped at a red light. When the light turns green she walked away from him. She shut it down at 60 and was already ahead of him by about 3 lengths. I could not believe she beat him off the line.

i have a 06 monte ss and just sold a 2000 t/a with a built ls2..............

the t/a was faster by far

but i agree people underestimate the ls4...it is a very capable car, and suprising how many people think the ss monte still has the 3.8 v6

my monte ss has beaten my chevelle (with the wife driving) with a built small block from stoplight to stoplight... we did it because i knew it would and she didnt beleive me...

just my 2 cents

Damn, I like my 08 gxp but I must have a slow one. Some cars are just faster then others stock. I have no personal experience racing a LS trans ams or camaros but I have with the lt1's and my car doesnt seem close. I had 1994 and 1995 Firebird formulas that ran 13.8 stock. I have had plenty of 350 tpi cars that ran 14.2 to 14.0 and my Gxp seems closer to those cars. I would think a LS camaro or firebird , especially one with exhaust work whould whip all but the most modded cars on this forum. One car magazine took a stone stock 2002 camaro ss to a 12.98 quarter mile. I'm gonna have to get this thing to the track and see what I've got.

Come on don't short change us on horsepower, we have 303 not 260. Could be possible the guy just wasn't a good driver. Stock LS4 cars can dip into the high 13's. Then again stock LS1's have been known to dip into the high 12's. And you weren't racing an 07 SS if he was limited to 107. The LS4 cars are typically good to 154.
