Default Getting the 4L60 to act right or switch it

I only have 34k original on my car but the tranny is irking me. Last night at the track it was hanging up bad on the 2-3 shift and in general is kind of sloppy. So what can be done with tuning and/or a shift kit and which one to go with? Will any of this fix the 2-3 shift where it taps the limiter? I just want it to hit the gears right.

If it is about toast though I am debating whether to build it, a 400 or 80E. What parts to make the L60 shift like it is supposed to and hold up good?

Goal is 11.5 tops

Man, my car tranny does the same thing during the 2-3 shift due to hard acceleration. My car has 72k on it. I don't know if mine is getting ready to **** on me, but I will be watching this thread. I know this wasn't helpful to answering your question, but it may help to know that you aren't the only with the problem. BTW, what gear ratio do you have? Just wondering.

It still has the stock 10 bolt 3.23 rear in it now. Next weekend though that comes out and the 9" with 3.70's goes in.

I know I am losing at least .1-.2 on the shifting problems and I bet 2 MPH to go along with it.

Do you put the car in D or just leave it in overdrive? Cuz my car will do that on the 2-3 shift when it is in D but not overdrive. I'm not really sure why it does it though. If you happen to find out on here would you possibly let me know?

I have tried it both ways and it doesn't matter. I am hoping the tranny guys can shed some light on it.

You could try and shift kit but if the 2-3 is sloppy at WOT there may be issues with the 3-4 clutch set

My built 4L60E did the same thing. I never got it fully sorted out before I decided to stop playing games and swap in a 4L80E. I did make the problem a little better though by playing with the shift speed/RPM tables and raising the limiter a touch on the 2-3 shift.

Is the 80E a better plan for reliable mid 11's?

If I yank the 60E and redo it what good parts do I need and where to get them?

- Clutches?
- Band?
- Shift kit?
- Input shaft?
- Output shaft?
- Pump?
- Drum?
- Sun Shell?

Anything else that is weak and should be swapped when it is open?

I love the 4L80, it's go a much closer ratio than the 60 and seems to keep the car right in it's sweet spot. It is however, heavier and takes more power to turn, but it's a small price to pay for the shift extention and durability. If you're gonna do the 60, all of the above plus 5 pinion planetary sets, but that's open for debate depending on who you talk to. Give one of our sponsors a call. I'm sure any one of them will steer you in the right direction.
