Now I know that LS1 are better than LT1. My question is say for instance you have a 1997 LT1 Z28 Camaro M6 vs. 1998 LS1 Z28 Camaro M6. They both have a lid(or CAI), aftermarket UDP, stock intake manifolds, Long Tube headers, x-pipe, and mufflers. The excact same brand or close to it, whats the difference in HP and TQ between the two? Also, what is the weight difference? I also heard that LT1 like nitrous alot. Just wondering guys.

The lt1 might beat it out of the hole but it will lose in the long run.

My 95 z28 with LT headers, catback, CAI and tune was up to par (hp #) with a stock ls1 auto.

LS1's take better to bolt ons also. I'd say the lt1 would be ~300rwhp tops and the ls1 could be in the 340rwhp range.

Buddy of mine has the same setup you described in his 2000 z28 (plus an ls6 manifold) and he made 341rwhp threw an a4.

I don't know if the LS1 is better than a LT1. That is subjective. Faster YES. Having had both the ls1 will put down more power stock vs. stock. I don't know mod for mod.

Both cars love the juice.

I love how people on other car forums talk sh!t about the LT1 until they line up against a well maintained one. :D

Depends on how you build it.. I had a little Hotcam LT1 that was a LS1 killer. I like my Iron Engines..that is why I have what I have now..:D

AR15 got it. LT1s with bolt ons like that are about the same as a stock ls1 (gm underrated so we actually have around 300RWhp and 350 at the crank.

Also, i have heard of little things that are less reliable than our engines, or replaced by something like our coilpacks. Its progress. The ls1 is basically better in every way unless you like being the underdog or like the sound of the lt1 more.

There is roughly a 40 HP difference at the wheels between the 2.

That seems kind of low man. I had a 114K stock car that put down 276/315 on a A4. Then i put a lid, Kooks headers, Kooks Y-pipe and borla stingers and put down 323/341. Then I added a LS6 intake manifold and P&P TB threw a forged 347(dosent add power just stronger motor) as well as a POS stall from a TBSS and I put down 378/366.

^^^ a new 347 will add power. because it is a new motor and you will not have any compression loss like you would in an older engine.

from what i heard lt1 engines like to eat bearings and the block flexes under big hp.

but the LT engines have 5 bolt heads and our ls motor have 4 bolt head set up.
and that should help you with head lifting at high hp levels, but having that extra bolt on the head makes the runners less efficient.

Every dyno is different too. No two dyno's will read the same so who knows. I thought 341 with bolt on's was pretty good. I believe his car has around 90k miles also. That was before his UDP so that may have helped a tad.

LT1's aren't bad. I liked mine. I just hated the way some of the stuff was setup. I never had opti problems BUT it made changing wires a pita. The coil per plug setup on the ls1 I have now is much nicer IMO.

My LT1 was quick and killed many mustangs with bolt ons and 3.73s.

Unless you do something about the heads on the LT1 mod for mod it's going to fall behind in horsepower quickly. It may still pull out great 1/4 times with sticky tires but the LS1 can take advantage of mods with it's headflow where as the LT1 is choked to much to benefit as much per mod.

Got it pretty much spot on. IMO there are not as many low mileage and well maintained LT1 cars as LS1 cars. Its unfair to compare a 160K mile LT1 against a 60K mile LS1 thats also possibly at least 5 years newer. Also seems like ppl take a lot better care of the LS1 cars

LS1 cars should have come stock with a 15 lb botle hooked up off the show room floor, they just love it.
