That engine should have easily held that power. Must have gotten to hot and lean.

Wow that makes me cringe knowing im running 11psi and about to hit it with a 75hp wet shot..... How much can these engines take?

Much more than 500rwp.
The Baker crew have put up insane numbers on stock long blocks.
You just have to tune on the safe side, and run a bunch of meth and/or GOOD fuel to prevent detonation.
750HP can be achieved on race fuel and meth.

no meth on crappy CA 91 pump gas. there was oil blowing out the exhaust that was screwing up the afr reading, i picked up the motor used, the bottom end was very extremely dirty and there was fine metal shavings in the oil. it was just a ticking time bomb. but im not going to lie. i dont know much about this stuff.

Looks like she was detonating. Better fix that tune or you're new pistons will look the same! I'm rebuilding a 4g63 DSM engine at work that was detonating and the #1 piston looks identical. He drove it a few miles back to his house with a hole in his piston! lol

piston looks like it chipped due to a lean condition. tops of the pistons were extremely clean looking, showing a lack of fuel. did you upgrade your pump and injectors at a minimum? maybe on the rebuild a wideband would help out on the tuning, if you did it yourself. what did the plugs look like?

that sucks to hear but those motors can handle alot more than that. definatly a tuning problem and the oil coming out of the exhaust doesnt help lol!

I'm with this guy. one of the primary spots detonation attacks is the ring lands, and yours look pretty mangled.
