Default Time to get serious, 6 speed suspension advice.

Decided to see what this car will do when setup properly. I'm going to go with the billet specialties wheels(15x10 rear, front?). Right now I have bmr non-adjustable lca's, bmr adj. panhard, and a bmr trans mounted double adj. ta. I have replaced the driveshaft and have a 12 bolt with 4.11's and a spool. I'm going to go with a 28" rear tire, probably m/t. what springs and shocks should I look at. I went to the drags 1 time and only managed a 2.0 60. The car makes 394 rwhp and 373 rwtq. I'm also putting her on a diet soon. Out of curiosity what should/could it run? Thanks

With the 6spd you may want to get a tourqe arm relocation kit!

Wow, that is a loaded question

Man, there are so many shocks out there...non, single, double adjustable. Koni's Afco Lakewood Strange QA1 Aldan. It's kind of like bread, LOTS of options, what do you prefer? Price range you want to stay in?
Don't forget teh driveshaft loop either. Need to know race weight to estimate ET as well.
Sorry, I usually ask questions like this before I answer, especially if you leave out info I think is needed to better answer your question

Got the safety loop, right now the car has the rear seat, sound deadening material from the carpet removed, no emissions junk. It's a t-top car with a 6 point chromoly cage. I'd say 3500 or so. As for shocks I haven't got a clue, I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm hoping that removing the stereo, spare tire, passenger airbag, and the a/c would get me a 11 second pass. I have a few parts I haven't installed yet like a 90mm fast intake and tb that would out put me right over 400rw, I'd say 410ish.

i can tell you this, my 400ish whp car went from a 2.1 60' 12.2x ET on my 17 rims with nitto drags to a mid 11 on my prostars with slicks and a 1.6 60' with stock suspension other than a torque arm! id also think a 28" tire may be too big for you power level at the moment unless your gonna spray? id say either a 26 or 27 with your current setup.

Well, he does have 4.11's, so teh 28" tire could work @ his power level. I would not discount the 28" tire just yet, unless you have a set of 26/27's laying around you could use to try out.
It also depends on how crazy you plan on going...you want this to be a 8, 9, 10 sec player someday soon? If so, you might want to go ahead and step up to a double adjustable shock then. If you think it will be some time before or this about where you stop (doubt it though)than just pick up a set of Afco's (or equivalent), stock springs, adj TQ arm, some BMR's LCA and call it a day.
At your level, stock LCA's will work, but, I don't know man...just depends on your financial situation. If you got the money, go ahead and pick up some LCA's while you are there. If not, spend the money on a TQ arm, and some shocks.
Also, if you replace all of that, and you have made passes on teh 28", make sure you head back to the track after your changes with a 28" tire to note changes in 60', 1/8th and 1/4. Get a good solid 3, 4 or more passes to get a baseline. THEN (again, if you have some) try a 26 or 27" tire, and same thing, get 3,4 or more passes on teh smaller tire and compare.

400ish, @ 3200-3300 LBS on a slicks is gonna get you mid 11's. Low 11's if you beat it up, slower if you don't

Agreed

It will not work one bit...

Example: 396RWHP, 381TQ
4:11's + 26" tire
3450lbs
11.32 @ 122.28
With 4:11s and a 26x11.5 15 tire you have 6300rpm at 122mph That is a very reasonable RPM even for them most conservative of setups.

With a 28" tire you have 128 MPH at the same RPM which will never happen on a 400HP car.

This means that he will never reach redline in 4th gear and thus will not be running his car effectivly [sp].

With 400 Hp, 4:11's the 26" tire is the proven combination time and time again. 28" tires are too much, unless he puts a 100 shot on top of that 400HP N/A

And even still, I ran 10.701 @ 128 with a 75shot and my 396HP, 4:11's and a 26" tire, but I pulled the motor all the way to 7000RPM which most people would not do.

If he goes to a 4.56's then a 28" tire will make sence. Other wise its prety simple. 400HP + 4:11's + 26" Tire =

mid to low 11's are easily capable pending DA/track conditions/weight. theres absolutely no reason to change from stock rear shocks/springs either if the cars setup properly. I def wouldn't bother with that change.

side note I had 26" tires (395hp/385tq) and ran 11.3x's....I put in 28x10.5w's and it slowed down 1-2 tenths. I had 4.11 gears btw. it just fell on it's face with my power band.

ski23 - what kind of tire are you planning? 10" will def be more rotating weight, but may be needed pending tire/hp/dr or slicks.....
