Default header flow ?

hey guys ive been lookin into new headers currently i have slp mids theyre 1 3/4" primaries. on my new set up the 383 with the AI 215cc trickflows how much of a difference would LTs make over the mids? and how much of a difference would the stepped lpp's be over a regular LT?

You will leave some power on the table with mids over LT's. As far as the stepped LT's vs. regular LT's, I think it's debatable about how much improvement there is to be had in going to stepped headers w/ a mild set up, but it definitely not going to hurt exhaust flow.

Going with LT's you would probably gain another 10-15 hp. And ss.slp pretty much nailed it on the head as far as the stepped thing goes.

Going to the LT's will give a lot more low and mid range torque. This will be EXTREMELY noticable on the dyno and behind the wheel. The high RPM improvement with LT's will be less noticable and closer to the mids.

I dyno'd last year with my Mids and this year with my LT's and holy cow there was a tone more low end and mid range torque. Bottom line, like everybody preaches, LT's are the only way to do it period end of story.

Here is the graph of the mids (blue) vs. LT's (red)
Only difference between these runs is type of headers and .020" less lift on my current setup (red).

Notice the power and torque is similar but the torque curve across the board is OMG off the charts improved from the LT's.
FTR actual MAX torque (red) was 360. That spike was a comm glitch during the run.
Needless to say, my current setup (red) is way more fun to drive and mo' faster across the board.

I left Mids on my car when I did the original LE install; I couldn't figure out why my
friend's car pulled so much harder than mine. Then I switched to Hooker LTs... WOW
what a difference!

What headers did you have before?

and the .020 less lift refers to cam size correct? That could be responsible for some of this difference could it not?

The mid tubes I had were RK sport AKA Arizona speed and marine knock off's. Both tunes at the time were optimized.
The .020" cam lift reduction on the current setup (red) is doing very precious little to the overall numbers. Nobody will argue that .020" of lift will make a huge impact to performance or especially the torque curve as shown in the graph.

This is all headers what you are seeing. Numbers were on the same dyno at about the same climate conditions and all were corrected to SAE.

Same cam lobes? You had a cam ground with the same lobes but .020 less lift? Why?

Reduce valve float and ensure engine longevity. The old cam was .603" and .607" valve lift and I was breaking valve springs.
