Default Custom FWI

I found this in the how to section of another forum It was designed for the 97-03 cars but, im planning on making this for my car with some of the ideas from cherry's build.

The way that you see in the write up Panther posted is good since it doesn't have too many bends which hurt air flow, also that one has a 4" diameter pipe and filter which in my opinion you NEED for a V8.

Deft, yours it's hard to tell but it looks like a really small filter and it also looks like the filter and piping is 3", is that the case?

I'm going to do one as well much like that one with the 4" filter, problem is we don't have as much room to get the filter in there I don't think.

our throttle body has a 3.25" inlet, so thats what i went with. The filter is a normal sized cone, so I'm not sure what you would want with a bigger filter.

Usually, on the V6's anyways, the filter most people would use is a K&N filter that has a 4" inlet, a tapered shape and 6" long. Now I would assume when building an intake for the V8, you would at least need as big of a filter. I mean, the bigger the filter area the better I would think and it would need to be at least as big if not bigger then the stock panel filter.

Looks good, the bend right at the TB is pretty tight but looks good, is that a 3" inlet filter?

Ya i got the bend better if u look at the finished pic with the shinny tape i wrapped around the pipe> its a little better than the other pic. The filter is a true flow filter that i had laying aruond. Its a 3.5" inlet. I spent $16 on this since i had the filter. Just had to trim up the roof flashing to make it fit. Plus if i remove the headlamp at the track it should be ram air

Did you knotice a difference in performance? This looks decent for cheap.

Thanks paul. I plan to upgrade to aluminum tubbing later on when i got the money. If this melts i bought a 2 foot section i can cut it out and make it last for a bit longer.

Right after i bought this car i had removed the factory air box cover and air filter. (Just the piece you unbolt to replace the filter) I then used this same filter and just hooked it up directly to the MAF. I just placed the filter in the Box. I had this done for awhile. The problem was it was open to hot air. This brings me to another idea. If u get a fliter similar to mine and mount like i did in the first attempt. Then remove the air horn and possible open up the front of the air box to let more air in. Finally use the flashing to inclose the factory air box with the round filter inside it. Dont know which way is better, except this way keeps u from having to move the computers. and VERY easy to return to stock.

However since i had done this i noticed a big differance in underhood temps. They actually seemed a little cooler with the first "intake" i made up since more air was intering the engine bay. Atleast thats the theory. I plan on Wrapping up the crossover pipe tommorow with some headerwrap i have left over from my friend. That whould help with any pipes melting, heat soak of intake and IAT,

That brings me to my current problem. I need to make a better mount for my TCM/ECM. Just did some zip tie work for the night. Here are some more pics. I also notched the flashin in the corner to clear the the small overflow coolant line. Thanks GUYS. any sujestions for mounting the computers woudl be great.

I only temp mounted the TCM to the strut brace.
I need to get wire loom to cover up the now exposed ECM/TCM wires tommorw. I also zip tied the wire to the bottom of the intake to keep them away from the exhaust manifold. Probally be doing this again after i get a loom for them. Im either gonna bolt the TCM down to the area where the factory air box was or maybe by the Brake distribution block. If i cant get a good place for the computers mounted im gonna go back to my original design and use the flasing to seal up the factor air box and open of the front of it a bit more.

I really did. It feels stongers and seems to pull harder in the mid range. Plus it sounds amazing. For the price it is great. Ill get the part number for the filter for you guys.
Parts list
True Flow Air Filter Part #90202
3" rubber coupling. I got one without a center rip
Flashing that fits 3"-4" pipe
2 foot section of 3" pipe. This pipes out side diamater is like 3" and 5/8. Just a 1/16 or so bigger than the inside of the filter. So it fit snug but easily.


So everything nice and tight.

The filter is a little smaller. But it makes i think its perfect so it fits behind the flashing. A longer filter would make it difficult to completely surround the air filter the way i was able to. And i went with 3 inch pipe because it matched up to my air filter and and MAF with out using any various adapter taking up space and keping the price cheaper. I had already trimmed a little to mouch from one side or else i woudl have been able to slide the flashing over more and that would have had a better angle into the throttle body. Just a thought for anyone who makes one like this.

I have seen a K+n air filter about this size before. It was different from the normal filter . It was called xtream or something like this and had an open front where the cone would be. This is a good write up. I think I will try this on mine maybe using 4inch pipe if it can be found. Good job Panther.

Here are some finished pics. Mounted ECM onto coolant bottle, TCM to fender, Wrapped the wires up with loom and added Header wrap.

Posted a couple videos of how it sounds with the intake. This intake and tune are my only mods.

You can't get a 4" pipe through the fenderwell gap without cutting the metal on your car Just to let you know. I BARELY got my 3" into the fenderwell.
