Default lifters??

so im in the process of installing my cam in my sig along with some patriot double gold springs, TR 7.4 chromoly pushrods, ls6 ported oil pump, ls2 chain, etc and i am getting concerned about my lifters, my car has 120k on it but was previously owned by a 60 year old man for its entire life. The guy i bought the parts from said unless i plan on building a stroker motor or something i should need to worry about the lifters....what do you guys thinK? should it be okay for a while until i get heads and then get some ls7 lifters? any input is appreciated, thanks!!!

I'm also getting ready to do a head/cam swap, I bought the LS7 lifters just for security, they were only around $115 and I just want one less thing to worry about when I reassemble everything

You shouldn't be too worried about it. It might collapse but that's not going to hurt anything. My guess is it will work for a while and then one will collapse and it'll be new lifter time, that's all! My buddy did his cam swap at 80k and drove fine for one day before this happened to one of his lifters and he ordered ls7's that night. Your car is sick btw, keep up the good work!

I'm in the same boat except I have 100K and my oil pan gasket leaks pretty good. So I'm gonna go ahead and pull the motor and rebuild mine. But I would for sure change the lifters, it would be too easy with the heads off, oh and might as well get ls2 lifter trays too they are only $32.

Edit: didn't notice you weren't pulling the heads, I think I would chance it, I wouldn't wanna pull the heads just to change a lifter unless I had too.

so i got everything back and together and when the car gets warm/hot i get pretty loud lifter tick....might be my 0w-30 amsoil, do you guys recommend i change to a heavier weight? 10-40, or even 20-50 w/teflon??? i'll hopefully be doing heads in the near future and then i'll just put in some ls7's but do you think heavier oil will make due??? thanks!

I would go back and double check everything..Make sure you torqued everything properly..Its not uncommon to have a little lifter tick..If everything is proper, then try some 10-30, thats as high is i would go on thickness with these engines

my car has 55k on it when I cammed it. The lifter took a dump after 2000 miles because it couldn't take the pressure from the dual spring. I will never try to run used lifters again. Oh also depending on what cam you have the 7.4 pushrods may be too short thus you wouldn't have enough preload. My cam has a smaller base circle than stock so I had to go with 7.425 pushrods. Even at that I'm less than stock preload. i really need a 7.440 to be back to stock preload

Plenty of reliable cars with more than that on them....and I know of plenty who have blown motors with half the miles. You just never know. You ALWAYS need to be ready to rebuild....its the nature of the game.

I see cool. Is there any tuners up in that area? I gave up finding one down here and just bought EFI Live and tuned it myself.
