Default Heads for Turbo car-- is ported worth it??

Is anyone making 700whp with stock 317 heads? That is my Hp goal and I'm at a toss up on whether I should get a set of ported Patriot or PRC 317s or just use the stock ones I have and upgrade the springs. In other words could the stock heads achieve those power levels? Would the stock valves be OK?

Thanks,
Frank

Id like to hear some of this too. I just got my truck running and my 317 heads are basically stock. They have larger stainless intake valves and upgraded springs/retainers but are otherwise pretty much stock. I have a T76 q trim ball bearing turbo pushing through them.

I've made 920 rwhp on a mustang dyno with stock heads and valve's, with dual springs being the only modification.

Fwiw, my old set-up I made 700rwhp with stock 241 heads and a stock 01' cam at 15-16 psi and a D1SC. 317 heads flow a lot better so it will do it easy, especially with a turbo.

If you are on a budget you can deffinantly use untouched 317 heads(with spring upgrades) to reach those power goals.

Stay away from the patriots. You'll have much better luck with ported 317's by someone who is reputable. Reputable is key especially on a boosted car.

Dont have someone take the swirl bowls out and get someone with good experience.
