The biggest difference is the compression ratio lq4 is lower than the lq9. Someone will chime in on what they are since I have forgotten what they are. I think the lq4 is 9.3 or something close to that.

According to Will Handzel, the main difference is pistons. LQ9 got coated skirts and 10.1:1 flat-tops versus the LQ4 at 9.4:1 circular-dish, uncoated.

I do...

basically the differences have been mentioned already...

the LQ4 pistons are dished for lower compression... ideal for boosted applications

the LQ9 are flat topped... better for NA cars

both are iron blocks

in my case i have an LQ4, but I milled my heads to raise my compression back up.

So a 2002 LQ9 will mate with a T56? And what crank would you need to buy to go back to the 24x reluctor? Will any aftermarket cranks work?

And what heads could you bolt onto one of these? Could you bolt LS3 or LS7 heads onto a LQ9?

Why won't the LS7's work? Sorry these might seem like dumb questions but I've never delt with an LS7

The LS7 changed the degree of the heads as compared with the other LS motors. I dont remember the exact angle but that is why.

no contest... I LOVE the 6.0, there's no reason not to lol

the bigger engine helps raise that TQ curve throughout more of the rpm range...
