Default Flat Tire;

So yesterday night I went to the track and after the first pass one of my slicks Managed to pick up a screw that was somewhere in the return road or staging lanes(I know my local track sucks). So had to change all my tires again and could only race once more. My Q is should I be carefull once I get this flat tire issue handle, specially when doing a burn out that I put lots of heat to the tire? Am I the first one to get a Flat Slick????

I carry a plug kit in my tool box. They say you shouldn't plug a slick, but I had to and ran it the rest of the season like that !

I have learned to carry an extra wheel/tire. No sense having a flat ruin your day.

If you already have it off, get a patch put in at any tire shop.

Iv'e done it for two test and tunes while waiting for the new tire to show up. It's not recommended and I even had to sign a release when I had it fixed, I **** you not. LOL When they saw what they were going to fix, they said you know this is a bad idea right? I'm like yeah, but I only get a few chances a year to hit the track.

NO REALLY, you can tube a slick? Mine was a MT street radial, and I did mention patchs, plugs, (mine had both) are a bad idea.
And here's another news flash, if you ask them nice, (T&T) they will let you make a single run, as in no one in the other lane. But heah, you have a nice day.

I've plugged a street radial before... Slicks/et streets aren't a good idea though.

BTW you should never replace one slick at a time... This can cause all kinds of problems (if one is worn more then another) and cause alot of launching and other problems... One tire shorter then another equals driving in circles... ok not that bad but you get the idea.

Wouldn't trust a patch or plug on a slick or a a bias ply et street. I have, however, run on a drag radial for half a season with a patched/plugged tire...

Prepared to be flamed, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat....

First race of the year last season, I ran over a rock and poked a whole in one of my brand new ET Streets. I ran up to the parts store for a plug to try and get through the rest of the day, that didnt work, got ripped out in the burn out. Made it down the track just fine with a slow leak, when I pulled around, I checked for the plug, and it was gone.

Ended up finding a bias-ply patch, used that and didn't have a problem for the rest of the life of the tire. Granted I go through a set of ET Streets every 2-2 1/2 months.

That's what I had done. Granted, it was on a DR though.

its like a plug with a patch on the end of it... u dismount the tire... drill out the hole and pull the plug thru from the inside out so it gets plugged then patched from the inside.... its the only way i would patch any tire... just my .02 tho

Okay As promised I'm getting back to you guys with the anwers from the manuf themself (MT)

here the e-mail that I sent and the response that I received. Kind of comfusing but basically not to use it again..
************************************************** ********

We recommend throwing it out as it can be patched or anything and to
dangerous so we recommend getting a new one.

Thanks,

Good Morning:

The reason I'm writing is because the other night at my track one of my
slick MTs managed to grab a screw that was somewhere in the return road
or staging lanes. Now I would like to know what is the best way to
aproach fixing this to a safe operating tire again. I have been
emphasised not to plug it. What would you recomend???

Thank you
