Default Impeller moves!!!!!!

I know that on a turbo, with the piping off you should be able to reach your fingers in and spin the impeller, but how much movement should the impeller have, I can almost wiggle it..( In and out and side to side). What the hell.. Please tell me this is ok....

.015-.022 side to side play is normal in a journal bearing turbo, but should be little to no noticeable end play, front to back play.

If its a ball bearing turbo you will have a little more movement, its nothing to worry about. When its on the car and the turbo has oil pressure the bearings will be filled.

Well, Im a bit ignorant as to what turbo I have. Its the STS rear mount, and there is no oil coming from the exhaust pipe, so I figured I was fine, but the turbo sounds funny, it doesnt have the clean high pitch spooling sound, what sucks is Im 300 miles away from any kind of shop that would know anything about any of this...

Charlie, they going to inspect it and try and figure out what it is? I still think its gotta be something with the car that caused it. Could be a fluke that it happened twice, but maybe not.

as previously stated, if i were you, i'd check my oil lines for debris and blocks. if you ever rebuilt your motor you very well might have some metallic debris in the oil or silicone in the line etcc
