Default 987 valvesprings?

Opinions? i know they arent the best, but i really dont want to have to swap out my whole valvetrain just to throw in a larger cam. I'm looking to put in a cam that will probably be around .590 lift (custom grind LE), and im wondering how my double diameter 987s will do? I have titanium retainers and locks, chromoly pushrods, and NSA Pro-Mag rockers. Is it possible to swap in some 918 beehives and use the same retainers and locks, or are they different?

Thanks guys

you will want at least 145 lbs on the seat and 150-155 lbs is even better.

To get a 987 set up wher they have 145 lbs of seat pressure (1.730" or so), they can only handle about .540 lift before having coil bind problems.

There are some $80-100 dbl springs that can be used with your retainers, locks and locators to get you the correct pressure and still handle the lift you are after.

What is the set up ht on your springs right now?

thanks for the response lloyd. I dont know what the installed height on the current springs are. Previous owner never told me. I guess that is something i will have to measure soon?

I dont mind buying new springs, i would just rather not have to swap out almost all of my valvetrain to go with a slightly bigger cam. What double springs out there would work with the same components?

If they are set up at 1.800-1.820, you can use these . . . .

If you had the $$$, just buy some patriot Gold Extremes but they are $270 shipped for springs, retainers, locks and locators.

These springs I mentioned above will work with what you have though.

If they end up being set up shorter (1.750" or so), a different part # will be better unless you re shim them to get 1.800-1.820.

haha, im in college. Good to head that there are some other springs out there that allow me to use the same seats, locks and retainers though. Guess i will have to recheck pushrod length and such though.

Would it be better to call you to discuss a custom grind or do you have any rough recommendations for me right now?
