Default Will removing EGR harm my engine?

Alright first off i searched on this and couldn't find a 100% answer. Anyways I just bought a LS6 intake for my 98 SS and I already made a EGR block off plate. If i do delete the EGR, am i risking anything? I read it was put there to prevent detonation, but people still don't experience detonation? I know it will throw a code, but that won't bother me. I'm just wondering if I have to worry about anything or just to enjoy my gains from the LS6 intake?

Not going to hurt any thing, After some more mods get a dyno tune and they can turn of the dtc and no more ses light, or if you have a buddy with hp tuner you can shut it off your self.
