Default The Hot Rod runs a new PB

We went to Pinevalley Raceway 3-29-09 and ran a new PB.

6.420 at 105.44 1/8 10.1514 at 131.66 with a 1.3126 60 ft 1/4

Weather
Temp-66.5
Humidity-32
Barometric Pressure-29.24
DA-Positive 1424

This with a LS1 347
5.3 Truck Heads
30x9x15 Slick
5000 stall convert
Turbo 350 Tranny
4.56 gears
Race weight 3180

They race didn't work out the way we wanted. We out in the 2nd round. We had a Spark plug issue (we think)

For an n/a stock CI car that's moving pretty good... get the bugs cleared and you shoudl see a 9 second pass this year.

I'm not 100% up on the weather down your way, how does that stack up to a really good weather day? Just a night run alone might get a 9 second slip out of the car yes?

To me up here in new england at our track that's at a 660 foot elevation if I could get that kind of d/a all the time I'd be loving life

Very fine run coach, seems the new cam is doing it's job. More seat time and some late afternoon runs in that DA and you should run a 9 sec. pass easy.

JL,i live 5 hours north of coach and i would kill for that DA It's pretty much luck of the draw around here. Most of the time the killer DA is on a Monday or wednesday haha! atleast that's what me and some of my buddies joke about.

Thanks everyone. I am looking forward to some better air to maybe finally run a 9 second N/A time.

The problem with the car was in the second round when I took the car up to 3500 rpms it acted like she was on the 2-step. She ran way off down low. lost 3 mph in the 1/8 and only 2 mph in the 1/4. I stopped at the end of the track and took her up on the convert, same thing. Took off and she was spiltting and stuttering until I shifted into 2. Instead of hurting the car I put her on the tralier and headed home.

When we got back to Houston last night we pulled the valve covers to make sure we didn't brake a valve spring. They were all good. We pulled all the pugs and they looked good. We checked to make sure all the header tubes were hot, good they were good also. Convert had not be hot. After checking everything we could think of we start her up and took her up to 3500, worked like a charm. I don't know what happened. Maybe we had a loose plug wire or have a plug going bad. Afler looking at my log books we have almost 200 passes on the plug in the car now.

Needless to say a fresh set of plug will go in her tonight. With the help of one of my new sponsors we plan on going to Little River Dragway this weekend to do some more 1/8th mile racin.

200 passes on the same plugs !?! Jesus I didn't think there was one that would last that long!

I don't think I've made more then 5 runs on the same plugs yet. Probably overkill at my level to be changing them every trip and then some like I do... but still.

Whatever plug you run, order a case of them. Usually they'll knock a little $ a per plug price if ya buy in bulk, at least my local autoparts store does. The look on the guy's face when you tell him ya want 120 plugs is priceless too

I'd swap the wires too just for the hell of it.

Pretty cool. I was there in the black GTO with black wheels. Not sure if you saw me. I ran a 10.98@125.80. My friend with the red C6 broke his axle. Track was hooking good.

Well we just figured it out. I ran a scan on the car and it had a PO650 code. We have a bad alternator. Easy fix. Sweet!

Coach
I was thinking a bad ground, broken/pinched wire somewhere. Glad you got it figured out. She should run even better with the proper voltage and a fresh set of plugs ... LOL !

Hey Coach, that DA is actually positive 1424 and not negative, correct? I think some were thinking it was negative.

Can't wait to see it go even faster! I have one of the solid roller/hydraulic lifter cams on the way for my car, Patrick G is the man!

Do you run a log on your car? I always log the voltage.

Congrats Coach!! That's rolling man.

I'm glad the problem was found pretty quick and wasn't a major problem.
