place to read engine codes
So recently my car started backfiring and it has me a little worried. Is there a place around the Riverside/Corona area that does engine code readings for free or for a reasonable fee? I would like to see if its throwin any codes and then start checking stuff off the list from there.
Also if anyone has an ideas why I am backfiring I am all ears.

They said that a lot of the smaller companies were getting irritated because of their free readings so the state outlawed them from doing it. BS if you ask me. Its funny I come from a state, Texas, that jokes about being its own country ... out here in Cali the lawmakers try and act like it is its own country.

Well the way the system is setup is that each state can control certain laws as long as they don't conflict with federal laws, if they do then federal takes precidence. Otherwise cali can make whatever laws they want, if they make a law that they find is constitutional somehow that says you can shoot your neighbor on the second tuesday of the month then they can.. shitty but hey gotta love the U.S
Sorry went OT..

yeah autozone quit loaning them out because of a commercial that ran saying something to the jist of you can diagnose problems yourself. So CARB (bs state group that regulates our smog laws) stepped in because most of the time check engine lights are emissions related and they didnt want avg joe polluting things.
Best bet is to pick one up for yourself and enjoy the convience of having it around, or you could always let someone rent it from you for a couple dollars each time.

i got my reader from Harbor Freight, for like $40 or something. use it every other day to clear my o2 codes and make sure nothing else is jacked up. VERRRRRY good thing to have, especially for that cheap. i carry it in my little console compartment.
