Default Wastegate referenced before or after TB?

I read the sticky, so I assume the wastgate is referenced before the TB. But I have read other places, to reference it at the intake manifold. Now I'm confused. If it needs to be referenced before the TB, can I use to port on the throttle body?

Are you running a boost controller?

I ask because if you are, I don't know how that's supposed to be routed. I reference to the same place as my boost, off of the manifold.

Normally boost for the wastegates is taken off a port on the compressor cover.

if you have a boost controller, you can run it off the compressor houseing or close to the turbo and use the controller to dial desired boost.

If running just off the wastegate spring, connect to manifold after throttle body or you won't see the spring rated boost at the manifold, due to friction loss through the cold side piping and intercooler.

What if your turbo doesn't have a fitting on the compressor housing?

if your housing doesn't have the fitting you can drill and tap it... and put a fitting in.

You can drill and tap one, but it's not necessary to reference it at the turbo and unless you have a boost controller you will find you will see less boost at the manifold then the wastegate spring rateing.

After all your trying to control the the amount of boost actually entering the engine so it makes sence to reference it from the manifold.

I have an electronic boost controller, the wastegate ref is from the turbo outlet and the controller solenoid takes ref from the same place, but the boost controller takes its reference from the manifold as thats the pressure/boost actually being forced into your engine.

I believe referencing the gate and solinoid at the turbo allows the boost controller to react quicker thus maintaining a steadier boost at the manifold.

Referencing it at the intake manifold will yield more boost then at the compressor housing. Tial says in thier directions that the reference should be before the throttle body and not see vaccum.

I'm not going to run a boost controller, just off the wastegate spring. So I guess I just reference it off the manifold after the TB.
