Default power steering pump in 2000 LS1 camaro

i think the power steering pump in my 2000 Z28 needs some repair, it leaks oil and it ruined the alternator (the power steering pump is right above the alternator).

any one knows how to take the pulley off of the power steering pump and how to disassemble it completly? is there a repair kit for the power steering pump?

thanks.

I will almost guarantee that it is not the pump probably the pressure hose.

Get some UV leak detector and track down exactly where it leaks from..

If it is the pump itself you can rent a pulley puller/installer from autozone takes a bit but it will come off..

I believe you can order a seal replacement kit not sure what that comes with just easier to buy a new pump rather than mess with the old one.

All in all pulling pulley and pump, install it again and service and bleed takes me about a hour and a half by my self

It is easier for me to take the PS pump off by the bracket and not mess with pulling the pulley off the front.

thanks for the reply.

i have some questions though :

1- what is UV leak detector?

2- where is the pressure hose? i saw 2 hoses connected to the power steering pump.

3- where can i get seal replacement kit? and for how much?

i think you could be right that it could be the pressure hose but it is good to replace the seals.

thanks.

1. The leak detector is a dye that you put into the power steering res. it does not eat away seals or anything like that so it is safe.

The UV kit that I bought from autozone was like 20 bux, comes with the dye, light a glasses.

Pour the dye into res. raise car so you can ge under and look . start the car and have a friend move the steering wheel from lock to lock ( full left to full right) while they are doing this put the glasses on and shine the light into the general area of the leak. you should see a bright yellow fluid ( that's the dye ) should be able to pin point the leak .

2. The pressure hose is the hose on the left side (if you are looking at it from front of the car) mounts to the side not the bottom.

autozone also sells these

part number: 80229 $27.99

If it is the return line I believe you would have to order from GM

3. the power steering does have a seal kit autozone has them for 7.99

here is part number: 8796
and the link : http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...ower+steering+
