Default a/c compressor

i am getting a chirping noise from my a/c compressor, it goes away when you turn on the a/c and i also found metal shavings on the compressor clutch. i was wondering if you can change the clutch on the car or do you have to take the compressor completely out? and does anyone have a write up?

I would also like to see some info on this.

That is one thing I could never find out, if there is a way to change out the clutch with the AC compressor still mounted.

Also, the chirping sound might be caused by the clutch being too tight. Which means that it is too close when it is not engaged.

I really have not messed with the f body AC compressor to know. But take a look at it and see if you can shim it out. I also remeber hearing that it was only bolted in and not shimmed. < Or something like that.

i priced out a new oem compressor and it cost $555.00 so if i can get away with just the clutch that would save me a ton since the clutch kit is only around $60.00(oem).

Anyone know?

I would really like to know for the fact that it would be so much better than replacing a working compressor with a reman, just because the clutch went out.

My thoughts exactly...I don't want to go through the hassle and cost of replacing the ac when a new clutch can wring a couple of more years out of a perfectly good compressor.

If anyone with ac experience knows the answer please chime in...

Same here. Mine is making a chirping noise and increases with the reving of the engine. Ive got a new clutch but if I recall the last time I looked at it, it looked like it wasnt bolted on.

Yes, the clutch can be changed by itself, but you'll have to buy/rent a special puller to get it off the compressor.
