Default All of yoi opti guru's some help..

Ok well as some of you may he read a few posts ago I got a new LT1 crate engine put in because #1 rod spun a bearing. Well I got the car back and it has a miss in it. Now im just wondering if the opti was put on wrong would I notice a miss at idle? Because heres my issue at idle id bounces from 800-824rpms which seems fine and its ok now when im driving I can feel the miss and DEFENTLY in 6th gear its really bad to where the whole tranny feels like its about to shake out of the car. Also I do notice that on my A/F ratio gauge its showing that its running lean. I checked all the wires on the opti and all the wires havee gone to the correct plug so im just wondering if a wire went bad? Like I said the car idles fine and you can feel the miss while driving. Oh yeah it feels best in 5th gear not too much shaking.... ALSO could a leaky header cause this? Because my passengers side header is leaking REALLY bad hence why I just ordered new headers today and I already got the car jacked up and the old y-pipe off and going to start on the manifolds tomorrow

It would be a good idea to change the plugs and wires. Get NGK TR55's and some MSD 8.5mm wires. Take care to hook the wires up correctly and to keep them as far away from the headers as possible. I would also get your coil tested.
I don't know what year car you have, you didn't say and you should have it in your sig. If your car is a '95-'97 then it wouldn't run if it was put on incorrectly. Also if your header is leaking badly, it could be fouling out your o2 sensor. I'd try to disconnect your o2's and see if any of your symptoms disappear. One last thing to do would be to clean your MAF (assuming you have one).

CRAP! Sorry....Its a 95 with a 6spd in it. I did have them install new plugs and opti. They were MSD 8.5mm wires on the car and I did notice that the passengers side wires were all ran together and bunched together dont know if thta has anything to do with it. I did notice my A/F gauge was readin lean

Well a misfire and a lean A/F ratio seems contradictory to me. That's why I would suspect your MAF or o2's.

The car will run with the MAF unhocked the ses light will come on and the fans. But it is a way to swe itf it is a maf . If you have a cylinder that is dead the oxgen will be high coming from thar one and the o2 will see a lean condition. I would ohm the wires if you have a temp gun shoot the exhaust ports and see what hole is dead. The manifolds are harder than headers to check but it will tell you what hole is dead. I would beat you have a bad plug or wire. Who put the manifolds on and when was the plugs put in . ( after the manifolds was put on, after it was put back in the car, just drop a plug 1 out of 10 it will damage it , if i drop it it is thrown in the trash) Could be a cracked plug as well.

If he had a dead cylinder, he would be flooding it with fuel, and it would read rich, not lean. Now bad injectors could cause a lean condition...

You are wrong it reads avaible oxygen . When it is turned into an air pump the bank will show lean . These are narrow band O2 most of the fuel will be burned in the exhaust because of all the oxygen beong pumped in it.

Can you get your hands on a temp gun? Try to narrow it down to one cylinder. i would look at wires and plugs. as said befor I bet you have a bad wire or a cracked plug. I have a 95 not fun to check stuff if it still has a/c. If you cant get a hold of a temp gun start pulling plugs it will show you. 6 and 8 are the ones that give the most trouble because of the dipstick.

Pull plugs, wires, O2's, and the manifolds. From there you should be able to tell what's what.
