Which A4 tranny for 700 rwhp?
I am thinking about ditching the built 4l60e and going non-electronic. Which one can handle 700+ hp and TQ? 700r4? 4l80? ?? Please help!

I'm no tranny expert but I've never seen a 700R4 hold over 500 rwhp reliably. Your best bet is going to be a TH400 or if you want to keep a 4 speed go with the 200R4. The only problem with the 200 is big $$$. Or another option would be a TH400 with the Gear Vendors overdrive unit, but again, it's $$$.

Strongest A4 (by far) is the GM 4L80E. Next would be the 200-4R.
If you'd consider a non-GM tranny, the recent Ford AODs can be made very, very strong. Lots of 9 second cars running them.

200-4r's are behind alot of 700+rwhp turbo buicks, but from what I'm told they still need to be freshened often. Also, those cars are usually shifted at 6k or less, an LS1 making 700rwhp and shifting at a higher RPM would be harder on the trans.
If I make the switch to an automatic, it's going to be a 4L80.

Rossler Transmission
His transmissions are in Lingenfelter's High HP Vette. Plus there a few board members using them as well. He only build racing transmissions.

Great input from everyone. I have seen a few 4l80s that are manual shift only about 3k, plus the Rossler seem to have a good product, but weak web site so I'll have to call. Let me pose this question... my Stage II TCS 4l60e, should I bother giving it a chance?
I do not want a 400 as I street drive and just going to 3:73's was enough for me.
Thanks again for the input, I'll let you know what happens.

That car your referring to is the one that Steve Duemler owns, and it runs 8.95 at 155+mph, and weighs about 3500 lb with driver. It does get freshened when he has a race (i.e., money), but doesn't HAVE to be freshened as often as he does it. When you have about $200,000 wrapped up in a 99 vette, sending in a tranny for $800 freshening isn't a big deal. Rossler will warranty the trans he builds, and has the best 4L60E on the market...just ask Cartek or Lingenfelter's....they use him for their 10,9,and 8 second cars. His "big" 4L60E tranny goes for about $2795 plus core I believe, and is worth every penny. I have been to his shop a couple of times, very professional and he is a racer as well...runs 6's in a doorslammer with one of his TH400's. Oh yeah, I am getting one this winter for my measly 10 second car.

Oh, I also had a 1990 LPE Vette with a Rossler 700R4 tranny...had the car 11 years and freshened the tranny twice...and I went through nitrous like it was bottled water. Very happy with his products and service. I have yet to hear any negative about Rossler trans, but have heard (and witnessed) pleanty of bad stuff from Speed Inc, FLP, Yank....just food for thought.

200R4 is not going to last IMO a lot longer than 4L60E.
I'd look into a 4L80E but you need a trans controller and I'd say it will cost about $K when it's done.
But if I were to take out my new T400 it would be for a 4L80E.

i saw an article a while back a company called century transmission out of texas will make a 9 sec reliable 4l60e tranny with a comp balanced converter for about 1800 hell i know when i start pushing more power im caling them. im far from an expert when it comes to trannys but hell form the article in gm-high tech and another in hpp they seem like a no bs company that has delivered what they say
