Ls1 dead, want 425 to the rear
I have owned my 98 trans am for 3 years and I just found out the ls1 in it is knocking and needs to be replaced. Looking to spend some money and wondering what the best way to go about getting a new motor that will make around 425 to the rear. Debating between getting another Ls1 and upgrading components or starting with a different block altogether. I am new to Ls1 tech and appologize if this isnt posted properly in advance. Thank you.

the ls1 can make 425 to the wheels easy with a cam in the 23x/23x range with some milled 243 heads and supporting bolt-ons, but i would put the cam and heads on before putting the motor in the car, its much easier to deal with when the motor is out..
just look around in the internal sections and find out which cams and heads you want, if its an a4 you'll definately need a stall converter to match the cam, if your a manual you might need to look at a different rear end, the stock 10 bolt might not hold up to the power your wanting.
hope that helps,
