Default Ameture Dynotune or Mail order tune????

ok so i have a question..... I have an appointment to get my car dynotuned on monday but i figured out the guy who will be tuning my car normally tunes hondas. I told him what i put down stock and he was completely amazed ..... from what i hear he is good with the hondas but he obviously dont know whit about LS1's!

So would i be better off to get a mail order tune? mods are in sig....

I plan on buying Hptuners in the distant future.....

An educated guess can be made to the rich side, but it's never a 100% guarantee for many reasons.

I just looked at a tune done by a supposed reputable Subaru tuner. I don't know anything about Subaru's but I would be willing to bet I could do more for them than this guy.

He had only modified the VE table (horribly), turned off COT and added 1 degree of timing in just about all of the main spark table. This is was a bolt on 04 GTO with a MAF. The owner of the car said it showed 30rwhp gain on the dyno, but it was slower at the track. Wonder how that could be?

The shop has HPTuners for the few Cobalts that come through there, but Cobalts have pretty much the same tables as any GM. Your Honda guy might be better, and know enough to find the answers, but it's still a shot in the dark.

Question of the day: Which is better?

A tune from someone who can see, touch, dyno and drive the car but doesnt know LSx cars?
A tune from someone who cannot see, touch, dyno and drive your car, but does know LSx cars?

I say neither... but the lesser of two evils would be the mail order tune unfortunately. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
