Generation IV Internal Engine - Need help figuring out what this is.

My brother in-law has a 6.0 motor in his truck and he did an oil change and this came out with the oil. What is it?

Are they tapered in thickness? Almost look the same size as valve keepers.

Thats what it looks like to me too. I hope you didn't get those out of the oil pan. If so, you need to pull your valve covers off and see if your rockers are digging your keepers out.

When I first looked at them I thought valve keepers too but that piece is broken in half. it looks like the one side has a factory cut like a roll pin and the other side is a jagged edge like it was broken. I am at a loss and the engine sounds like it did when it was brand new.

THis pic is pretty blurry but you can see that it is not a valve keeper. It is not tapered either.

Don't know if it will help or not, but that looks like what I pulled out of the head gasket corner holes. There were 2 per side I believe in the block corners. No idea how it would have gotten to oil pan if that's what it is.

Aren't those a little larger then this piece? Plus, could they even make it to the oil pan?
The only thing I thought it might be is a part of the rocker arm but I don't know what the bearing looks like to say for sure.

It is steel. Like I said it looks like a large roll pin. I will see if i can get a better pic of it.
