Default noob hearing "new" noise from Pro 5.0 shifter

Hey fellers,

Please bear with me because I'm not that familiar with transmission stuff. I bought a used 2000 Z28 about six years ago. Since then, I've gone from 29,000 to 150,000 miles. Around 45,000, I was given a Pro 5.0 shifter and installed it myself. I knew there would be a little "whine" due to the metal on metal but today I noticed a faint rattling (not grinding) when it was in gear and at idle. I've had problems with slipping out of reverse for quite some time, however, no problems have ever popped up with any of the other gears. btw, my car faintly smells like rubber is burning but I'm great on oil and my temperature is fine. It's been suggested that there might be a problem with the shifter or a transmission mount. I know that isn't much to go on but any ideas or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
