Can someone tell me what the difference is between a Base model c5 coupe that does not have a removeable glass targa option, and a c5 Z06 coupe. I have seen in reading where they say that the z06 has a "special" roof. I understand that special is pretty vague.:confused:

Wow never noticed the glass, sail panel and everything is different. The non Z06 reminds me of the 62 rear glass in a way.

Wow! ok yes now I see that the sail panel is different. But you can apparently make a stock rocker panel look like a Z06 by cutting a hole and inserting the brake cooling duct. Google you bastard, you will be my demise! Thanks for the help guys

It's referred to as a "fixed roof coupe" (FRC) or "hardtop" and they made non-Z06 C5s that way as well.

AH HA! I had seen this picture and wondered if the rocker had been changed or what had happened:confused::confused: So I'm to assume it was a special order? How do you search to buy an FRC base model, non- Z06? Pretty hard to come by?

Were these more common in earleir c5 models such as 97-99? It seems like almost every c5 came with a targa roof:bang: I told myself not make anything close to a clone Z06 but funds are tight and I wanna go fast, so If I could find an FRC, I would build it the way I want and probably add just brake ducts, but not badges.

They made FRCs until 2000. From whay I heard, they weren't selling too well so they just used all of those bodies for the Z06s which were made from 2001 to 2004 so the roofs on the C5 Z06s and the 97-00 FRCs are identical.

1999-00: The FRC was a stripped-down and cheaper Corvette. Z51 was standard and all were MN6 6-speeds.
2001: First year of Z06 on FRC body-style. 385HP and MN12 (different gear) 6-speed.
2002-04: Biggest change was 405HP, but lots of small ones over the run.
Here's a pic of my 2004 Z16, which shows the hard-top nicely in profile...

Lots of mis-information in this thread about FRCs. The above poster definately has his information right though. I've heard that all 1999 FRCs came with Z51 suspension but not all 2000 FRcs came with it, I'm not sure about the accuracy of this. The FRCs are the most rare of the C5 models they only made 2.941 in 2000 and 4,031 in 1999. Check here for production numbers/more info: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c5/1999/99prod.html
Look around that site for more info on C5s in general.

I highly doubt that they used left over FRC bodies for Z06s. Whoever told you that should probably stop giving car advice.

Yea I thought it sounded kind of weird and I've never heard about that on here during the 5+ years I've been checking the site.

I can't honestly see why not. Not much is different from a base C5 and Z06, it's not like the new Z06 which is pretty much a completely different car. The C5Z has different tranny, Ti exhaust, 243 heads, different cam, stiffer suspension, gauge overlay and factory painted brake calipers.
Edit: front fog light cut out's and the rear brake ducts. The base C5 actually has the lines where to cut if you want to add the rear ducts.

I knew the front windshield was thinner, didn't know about the back. The LS6 is nothing different than the LS1 besides cam and heads. After 00' all Corvettes got the LS6 block and intake. Yea the rims and tires are different, but wasn't the question just if they reused the FRC body?
