Default First time at the track

So I am taking my stock ws6 to the track tonight. The track is a little above sea level. I have never dragged a car at the track before. What should I launch at ? What should I set my tire PSI too? Do you think it would be ok to run with no air filter just on the track ? The reason I ask is because my air filter is very dirty and my new one hasnt come in yet. Any tips would be very helpful.

take the air filter out only on like 1 or 2 runs... set tire pressure to 15-18 psi, and launch it at 3500-4000, and power shift like a mother ******!!

also, what tires do you have?

any other suggestions guys?

I am running Kumho Ecsta ASX. It is a all season high performance tire. They do not hook worth ****.

If they dont hook for **** i'd recommend you wait and get some dr's if you dont wanna wait leave em at 25 just play with the clutch at launch

Leave the tires where they are supposed to be aired, airing that tire down isn't going to help.

Rev the car up to about 2800, and don't dump the clutch let it out quickly adding power as you let it out. Make sure the car has plenty of time to cool off once you're there and between runs so the clutch doesn't overheat. You can't dump it but don't ride it any more then you have to, once the car is moving let it out and floor it, you just don't want to bog the car or blow the tires off it. Tricky to say the least, and there's no easy way to explain it. But, that's how I ran mine when it was stock (man was that a LONG time ago LOL)

You can run it with the air filter out, take it out when you get there and don't forget to put it back in when you leave.

Good luck, have fun and be safe. Don't expect to set the world on fire, don't worry about reaction time, just have fun, and try to learn something every run you make so you can build on the experiences.

ya with them tires dont worry about the psi in the tires, just kinda feather the clutch be make sure it has the power... also, im pretty confident youwill make it inthe 13's... you better!!! GL and HF!

It should be capable of 13's without too much drama. My car with 1100 miles on it went 13.2 @ 107

I put headers and a lid on it, tuned it with a diablosport and it went 13.6 @ 109

PUt a spohn tq arm and lca's and phb on it, went 13.6 @ 108

Tuned the car, added frame connectors, bought a set of bogarts, first pass smoked the stock clutch to the point that anythign more then 1/2 throttle slipped it in any gear over 2nd. Killed it pretty good

Put a cam and clutch in the car, went 12.2 @ 114.8, 3700 lb raceweight.

Added heads, stock motor ate #7 and #4 within 300 miles, never ran it at the track

402 got built, Th400 went in, 6 pt bar, car went 10.50 n/a

Added a 150 hit thru a Nos plate, changed the converter, weight reduction to 3350, finished the cage off and got it certed to 8.50, car goes 9.50 now.

Car's coming apart, goal of 2900 lbs when it goes back togeher if the motor is still an alum motor, if I go iron block with it hopefully keep it around 3050 New goal: 8.50



That was my progression.... just have fun, enjoy it, and mod the car as you feel the need to. Just remember to stop when you feel that you're not going to have fun anymore.

how did oyu go faster stock then with bolt ons??? launch was just amazing or what?

BS luck LOL. I was still on stock F1 tires... as soon as I did anything to add any power it just put the thing over the threshold of what the tires would hold. Thing would spin so bad on the 1-2 shift it actually would roll smoke on the tires for a second if I powershifted it I "thought" the rear suspension parts would help... nope.

Mind you this was in 2001, when alot of what we know today with these cars wasn't as wide spread.

Then, as soon as I put a tire on the car (my bogarts had a 26x11.5 et street on them) I killed the clutch on the very first pass. By the time I ran the car again, I had a small cam and a good clutch in the car.

I ran a 13.3 at 109 with basically stock power.... stupid DA. I'm a granny shifter as well. I need to fix that.

I went 13.2x @ 107 stock with 100k miles.......and an a4. Six speed ****

Don't worry about trying to get a good 60 ft time; those rain tires just won't allow that, no matter what you do. 2.1 is reasonable, 2.0 would be very nice.
FWIW I ran a best time of 13.52 @ 105 when stock, 2.11 60 ft (2.0x on other runs, stock Goodyear RSAs). My wife had a '01 Z28 and went 13.3 @ 105 stock, 2.02 60 ft. Both cars were autos with 2.73 gears. So if the weather is nice then your 6-speed should run quite deep into the 13s, perhaps deeper than my wife's 13.3 (6-speed = better top end). Just don't try to be a 60 ft hero until you get some sticky tires.

Sure, we can put those parts on your car once I've replaced them. You can buy them if you'd like once they're off I have no problem selling them to you.


I granny shift my own junk... now if I get someone else's car and I'm put to the challenge of beating their best time my right foot is going to the floor on the last yellow, and isn't coming off until I'm thru the traps that I can promise.

With a bolt on car I dunno what it could run in the 1/8th, what does the car weigh?

If it's a full weight car, with the power it made on a decent track/air day it should be capable of running in the bottom 1/2 of 12's, alot depends on the track/weather and car weight.
