Power limits for Honda rod journal size?
I have an eye on a nice billet crank, but it is using a honda rod journal size (1.85"). Will a crank that has a smaller rod journal like this be an issue for higher horsepower (1200+)? Would this crank best fit using aluminum rods?

good question, not that i know the answer, but on the oval cars we use the honda rod to make the rotating assembly lighter. maybe it cuts down on friction due to the smaller bearing also? I know they hold together in the race cars, we turn our motors 8000+, but they only make 600fwhp at most.... I would like to know the power limits also.

I would say it should handle some decent horsepower. BEWARE if you add the coffee can exhaust tip that should double the net power it and blow it all apart! LOL! jkn Someone had to do it bro!!!

FWIW Callies Magnum XL crankshafts are Honda Journal or 1.888" unless specified.
Its not something I would use for heavy boost/Nitrous. 2.000" Journal i'd feel confident with about any power adder when using the right parts.
Crankshaft is fine, the piston/rod combination can be trouble some, I have methods of ordering parts to solve alot of these headaches.

Does anyone know the history behind the Honda rod journals in GM V8's? I've always been curious about this. Did someone back in the day figure out that Honda connecting rods worked if you simply cut the crank down?

Lots of confusing information here. Small journal sizes are used for lighter cranks & less bearing friction to help get ever last bit of power out of a max effort motor, or a motor that is restricted due to class or something like that. They are not Honda Journals, just Honda sized. It's more of a circle track, restrictor plate, CI restriction trick to get these motors spinning higher due to less friction & weight.
