hey guys i just painted my car black and im doing a little color sanding right now i was just wondering what products you use to get a good shine..i want my paint to be really deep. it seems like when i wet sand and wheel it out its just not as deep as it was when it came out of the booth, so im thinkin someone here with more experience could help me out. thanks

I don't know a lot about paint but when you say color sand, are you referring to sanding the base/color coat? If so, you'll never get it to shine like you want. You need to clear it and then wetsand the clear.

I guess I'm not completely sure what the aspects and specifics are of the situation...

im pretty sure he's talking about color sanding the clear, and buffing it back out.

i just use a circular buffer, and start with a rubbing compound, then a fine cut polish, and follow it up with a swirl cutter. then finish it with a sealer. i use nothing but the buffing pads from tropi-care.

might not be the best way, but it works good for me.

yeah talkin about sanding the clear, i think the schools compound is 2500 grit should i use something more fine

Black is a bitch.....

that said you need to take many many steps..

I normally 4 step my black cars..

wool pad with a compound
poorboys SSR3,high temp extreme leveler. or the like..(if your wet sanding 2500/3000 you can skip if you want)

lt cutting foam pad light compound
Poorboys ssr2.5,optium hyper coumpound,menzerna SIP,meg 105

polishing foam polish
Poorboys ssr 2,optium polish,meg 105

Finishing foam polish
poorboys ssr1,opt polish , meg 205,menzerna final polish II

Now the final polish is where your going to get your depth and wettness.

For colorsanding you can start with 2k then go to 2500 depending on how bad the orange peel is. If you know how to use a rotory start with a wool pad maybe an acrylic one. Be careful not to burn the edges when buffing. They make a 3m 3k line for jobs like this go to a bodyshop and ask for the new 3m stuff. Theres 3 polishes that should get ya going. But youre going to be buffing out black for at least 20 hours or so. GL

Autogeek has all that stuff, but I but the megs in there because if you didn't want to wait then you could get that at a paint store .. the 3M stuff is good also but i'm not really famlier with thier line.
