Default LS Fox Mustang guys with Kooks headers come in

I just got my new Kooks headers for my 93 notchback for my ls motor and the steering shaft or knuckle is hitting one of the tubes. I had a 3/8 ls header flange so i put that on to space it out and it did make it better but i still had to force the shaft and knuckle on. I think my Kooks were made on a Monday or Friday. I don`t want to use the 3/8 flange to space it out because the spark plug boot hits and will melt and i can`t use the flange on the other side. The only thing i can think of is to move the motor up with some spacers maybe ??
Heres a few pics with the 3/8 flange on and you can see that without the 3/8 flange that i can not even get the shaft on.

I can't see any of the pictures from work, but what k-member are you using? Are your motor mounts adjustable? You may be able to raise or lower or adjust the motor side to side in order to get more clearance. Using offset steering rack bushings could help also.

Any of the polyurethane companies will have them, i.e. prothane, energy suspension etc.

what about welding a extension on to the factory column, then using the flaming river pc.
or just set the motor up some more with some spacers, that will work good for some 60ft times, will help with the transfer

I used the stock piece coming outta the factory column then I used a double female u joint. This places the u joint farther out away from the header tube. It was still a close fit but it worked. Do you know what piece im talking about?

That joint looks bigger than my Flamming river. When I put the 6.0 in , I had the motor over towards the passenger to far and it was rubbing the jam nut on the set screw. I loosened the motor mount up, slid it over ....problem solved. Its still tight , but clears. Also, how far the motor is tilted back makes a difference too.

Also, offset rack bushing are not the answer. If you are using a F-body pan you will not have enough clearance to raise the rack.( which would also help bump steer) and you sure as hell don't want to lower the rack.....lol Plus it would not affect the column side of the u-joint. Just my .02

Slow346 ya i know what your talking about and thats a no go.

The only thing i can think of doing is cutting the end of the steering colum were the shaft slides in so that the knuckle is closer to the firewall ??

I have same problem.... I put spacer in bottom steering column bolts and tilted column down at shaft.. That gave me enough room to clear..really not happy after paying all that money for headers and k-member.

I ended up cutting the steering colume shorter and moving the knuckle closer to the firewall.
Now i have a problem with the collector on the drivers side....it dumps right at the the trans cross member. Now i have to modify the AJE trans cross member. If the collecter would have been closer the the trans by 2 inches i would not have this problem.

There have been many cars on this website that had no problems getting there KOOKS/AJE combos to work, so it is odd that some are having problems and others ar not. Maybe some tweaked chassis???

I will get pics/proof that its not tweaked chassis. What part did you not understand about the collector needs to be closer to the trans by about 2 inches ???
I agree Kooks = worst fitting headers.
