Default do vans with gen 1 engine and 4l80 have a seperate controller?

i have a chance to get a 2000 4l80 out of a express for silly cheap. just wondering if it 1) has a controller 2) would be worth grabbing. thanks robby

No, it does not have a separate tranny controller.

I've heard that rumor before as well. It was diesels with 4L80E's that were suppoosed to have them.
But they don't.
I'd bet someone could convert any old style OBD1 ECM to a stand alone controller. It would need a TPS and a MAP added to say a carb set up, and you'd need programming/chip burning stuff like Moates APU1.

I've burned chips for my 1992 dually and seen the trans control parameters, it wouldn't be easy and it would hardly be worth it as compared to buying a stand alone controller made for shifting it.

If he has a 99-02 Fbody, the factory PCM will control a 4L80E (with a little wiring and a segment swap).

Yes, I realize that. I was answering his question with about all I know about what he asked about.

You should direct that advice to him I think.

a 2000 4l80e will have a lot of fact. up grades to it, so def worth getting if the price is right-it would sell quick as a core-cant help on the controller thing though
