Pushrod Length...
does 25/1000ths of an inch (1/40th) really make that big of a difference? i thought we had self-adjusting lifters?
i'm about to put my cam in and i don't know whether to get the 7.400" or 7.425" pushrods. input please....

i would measure. i bought a engine off the forum used. the engine didnt pull past 6000 and cam was good for 6600. since i new all my springs were new since i just freshend the engine i did a compression test and had 170psi. which was a little low. so i backed the rockers off to zero lash and then had 200psi. becuase the pushrods were to long with the stock non adjustable rockers the lifter has too much preload and was hanging the valves open.

thanks guys. ....i thought i could just set the adjustable pushrod to 7.400" and follow these instructions: link but apparently not. no idea i had to find TDC and everything. thanks

this is what i got after setting the adjustable pushrod to 7.400" and testing on 2 valves checking the wear pattern. ....but this is an incorrect way to check??

This is a shaft mount system, you cannot measure length by checking the wipe pattern. Your method is for a standard SBC. Since you have no adjustability, you need to change the pushrod length in order to get the lifter pre-load right. The method I showed above, or the method Vettnuts listed are both very easy, and pretty accurate.
