Question F*cking Cat is dying! Have a couple questions...

I knew it; car has 91K miles on it so I really can't complain. n e hoo, my SES light came on, so i scanned it and got code P0420 which is "inefficient Cat, bank 1". I reset the code and with in 10 miles it came back on, did it again, and it did the same thing.

My question is; do i have to fix it? I'm planning on getting LT's with a catted-y, but, it won't be until NEXT YEAR. The cat isn't rattling or anything; matter of fact, if you put tape over the light, you wouldn't even know .

I'm just not sure if it is ok to just "leave alone" until im ready to buy LT's or until it starts to rattle. I don;t want it to clog up and **** the engine up. I also don't want to spend $600 (or w/e it costs to replace it, i have no idea) on an OEM Cat install to just turn around next yr and drop another $1,500 on a nice set of KOOKS.

What should i do? Is it crazy expensive to replace the OEM unit? Should i just say "**** it" and leave it alone, until next yr, when i get LT's?

**** you Al Gore....

Got mine done last year for free! You might need that number in bold when you go to the dealer, when I went I got the "wtf are you talking about" face until I showed the bulletin number and they checked it.

I'd leave it unless you have to go through emissions. This is why i dont run cats anyway, just more **** to potentially cost more money to fix.

If you're going to get LTs with a cat'd Y later just get the rear O2's tuned out for now. If you call a tuner near you I'll bet you could find one to do it for free - then with engine mods later you can go back to them and pay for a real tune.
