Default Has anyone boxed their stock LCA's

I was welding in some plates to box my factory LCA's until I get around to purchasing an aftermarket set. I did this on my chevelle and eliminated a lot of wheel hop created by the flex in the arms. Is there any benefit to doing this (and possibling adding poly bushings) or am I just better to leave them alone and buy an aftermarket set?

I don't think it will hurt any, and probably help some, but not quite as much as a set of aftermarket LCA.

Ive done it to a buddy's '95 Z who was on a tight budget. (LCAs, PHB, and fabbed up a set of SFCs) All I did was weld in a flat piece of steel about the width of the gap to cover both ends of the PHB and LCAs. Im not sure how it compares to a set of aftermarket set, but it certainly wouldnt hurt until you buy a set.

SLP sells the insert to be welded in to the stock arms, or they sell the entire arm, already boxed?

All you need to do is buy a sheet of steel and its up to you as to what size guage (thickness) you want. Cut them in strips to fill in the gap and to cover from one end to the other, weld them in, and youre all set unless you want to make them look pretty. If youre wondering if SLP sells the suspension parts already done like that, you might as well buy aftermarket pieces. I would say dont even waste your time unless youre on a strict budget and dont plan to ever buy a set. If not, then spend the little extra money now and you'll thank yourself about it later.

Control Arms, Lower Reinforced 1982-02 Camaro/Firebird $199.95

These fully boxed lower control arms really make a difference in handling for any 1982-2002 Camaro or Firebird. Modified by welding a 1/8-inch steel plate to box the arms and reinforce the bar for increased rigidity and then black powder coated for a durable and attractive appearance. SLP also installs new polyurethane bushings to help decrease deflection under load and create more control and stability in your Camaro or Firebird's rear suspension. While perfect for street use, these new parts are designed for all forms of racing, from drag racing to auto crossing. These are an easy bolt-on addition to any third-or-fourth-generation "F"-body.

Suggested reading before boxing your LCA's and using poly bushings:

$200 for a pair of reinforced stock LCAs with poly busings! For that much, I'd rather buy adjustable tubular chromoly LCAs with poly/rod end combo. Dont waste your money, IMO theyre not worth it.

I was all set to weld up my own (on a spare set of
stockers w/ 1LE bushings I had) when I found a guy on
here who was selling a set already done that way. So
I bought them instead and pressed the 1LE bushings in.

The aftermarket ones might be a bit lighter.

I agree... for $200, I might as well buy a nice tubular set with a poly/rod end. I don't think it's even worth my time to go throught the hassle of welding them. Might as well just pop for an aftermarket set. I just thought it might be a nice alternative and save a couple hunred bucks.

Fulton 1, that was some good read man. I am ordering the Madman LCA sponsor section ones right now. Solid ends, teflon lined bushing, shipped less than the SLP's poor box with mediocre bushings!
