Default Gauges for gxp

1st post - official newbie here.

So, I bought the gxp and at the time didn't really think the lack of gauges would bug me. But I was wrong!!!

Anybody have a neat fix for oil pressure, oil temp, voltage, maybe even some crazy info like tranny temp, too? I think the GTs have at least a bar graph for oil pressure.

I checked with dealer and they spent some time looking. The original gauge display (can be seen at Pontiac website) that is now a deluxe cell phone holder does not even apprear to be available for purchase.

Thx for your thoughts/experience.

There is always the HSV option. Pricey, but very nice.

Thx. I checked those out. They look nice. A bit pricey, like you said - cluster and an adapter pushing $650, right?

I was wondering if anyone (vendor??) had integrated a fix/patch for the multi-function display to show more info? Is that something that is done with GMs?

Its been talked about, but I dont think the display supports it. I read where someone is going to do a programmable LCD display also. You can buy the gauge pod and install Autometer gauges in it. Thats what I will do as it adds a race look and that will fit my cars image well. I am also working on a shift light for it too.

Beside the HSV pod with or without gauges, a company from Oz called JHP markets a dual pod that sits over the center speaker.

Nice pic! The gauge cluster is nice, but it sits on the speaker? Or replaces speaker? Maybe I'll pony up for the HSE.

That red cf inlay looks nice, though. Usually not a fan of "bling", but looks like it might match the color of my car- sport red.

Anyway, back to topic -GRRRRR8 - electronic display? This is something that would go where originally intended? In the open spot (deluxe cell phone holder now) below center speaker/above center vents?

I would pay the money for the HSV gauges. You won't regret it.

There is a member on my site that just came up with a trick 08 display for the 09s as well.

I really liked the original gauges where the cell phone holder now is. I thought they were cool. Then again, i never drove one or even sat in one while they were on.

Are these pictured the ones for over $600? If so, then check out this link

http://www.jhp.com.au/g8partsdirect/G8SportsGauges.htm $264.

Theres also the tripple gauges they offer which i think best suits the OP's request.

Id buy those and ask 6LE to make some red overlays! Damn you could go all out and get 5 new guages!

Or you could do away with them alltogether and get GPS

So this display is on the 08s and not 09s? Are the gauges in the GT versus GXP different?

Thanks guys!! Love the info

The digtal display (refered to as an Atari display sometimes) is, at least in concept if not identically, what the GXP was supposed to come with. But the GXPs now have the binacle/cell phone shelf.

Re the GT vs GXP - not posive on this, but I don't think GT has a gauge cluster at all. GXP was supposed to, but isn't showing up with it. I haven't been able to find out why - someone suggested that the integrated bluetooth connectivity (that works SWEET!) became std eq for GXP and the gauges were eliminated.

As already ID'd, the three cluster gauge that fits in the binacle is the roughly $650 option (although I also saw a 3 gauge cluster with hooded gauges that actually looked nicer, but it's not the totally OM/integrated look these have).

The two gauge cluster looks nice and price is much better, but it would appear it gets located where the center speaker is for the GXP. So I reallly don't see that as an option.

GRRRR - can you post link or otherwise direct me to the post/person you referenced for the Atari gauges? Thx

That's lame that the 2009 does not come with the "Atari display"!!! (I also verified by going to the 2008 G8 site versus 2009 G8 site and looking at interior pictures.) I wonder what the logic was there... Can the same information be displayed on the driver info center?

So in all reality, this thread applies to the GT and GXP since neither of them have the "additional" gauges.

FYI: The digital gauges (if you want them) could be installed into a GXP or 2009 GT. They are the Atari gauges, just reprogrammed. 2008 cars just need reprogramming. I have a 08 and I'm going to get this.

http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15216

I think this is what GRRRR8 had referenced earlier and NORM8332, too. copy and paste the link

I just read the whole thread - If you have the display, then it can be reprogrammed to look better.

If you're spot is blank, like the 09 GXP's, he'll be able to supply the panel in kit form. I'm guessing (STRESS guess) the kit will be around 300-400.

I'm pretty excited!! (I kow that sounds weenie, but I mean it!!)

I just ordered a 2009 gxp. I would like the gages shown.
  • So I need to get them programmed in to work?
  • What is the part number?
  • Anything else I need to know?

You need to contact Chris White at www.gtoshiftlight.com, he's behind enabling this display in the G8 and cluster customization.

He redid the entire interior in my LS2 GTO in Pontiac red, enabled the factory shift light, he does exceptional work.
