Default California Exhaust

I was going to put some headers on my 99 camaro but i can't do that in CA because it's illegial. I was wondering about putting a bigger exhaust manifol, cats, and y pipe. I was wondering if anyone knew something good to put on that would give it more hp and a better sound.

well "legally" you cant do anything before the cats other than some shorties. so you are stuck with those and a good catback. or just put a cutout on

Yeah shorties or a cut-out are your only legal options. You could always put on long tubes and swap in the stock stuff when you smog it or just find a shop to pass you. I went with a cutout and I'll probably get shorties later on. Nice to see another central cali member on here too. I'm in Dinuba, around 20 minutes north of Visalia.

What is your budget for this? IF you have it, I would recommend this:
1. You could go shorties, the JBAs have an EO#, make sure you have the documentation with you on inspection.
2. Get this Y-pipe from SLP, have a GOOD shop weld in some factory or highflow cats: http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=31035 It's a quality piece, factory style, and with cats in close to the factory spots will get you there. This Y will fit factory manifolds or shorties, I am 99% sure.
3. Get a reasonable cat-back, an SLP dual dual or 2OTL be ideal since it came OEM.
4. Get a tune to make sure you get good power and it runs clean.

Cool Hedman Hedders are 50 state smog legal C.A.R.B approved

unfortunately here in killer kalifoeneya we cant count on our governator to back up jack crap. SO, that means you must use a shortie header or tubular manifold replacement header that will keep the stock cats in stock location.
You should look at the Hedman Street hedders with 1-5/8" diameter primary tubes and stock style collector to accept the stock y-pipe.
These are easy to install bolt-on direct replacements at a very low price!
Hedman Street painted black part# 68551
Hedman HTC ceramic coated part# 66551
All made in Whittier, CA

There are shorties on eBay at a crazy low price
lately. Probably not EO#d. But possibly you could
find a valid JBA EO# and emboss your own little
tag, wink, wink. I mean, $95 a pair in stainless
kind of cheap.

The price was so low, I bought a pair just to
keep on the shelf with my cats and SLP Y, in case
Kalifornitis breaks containment and I have to ditch
the long tubes. Though that seems like a stretch
at present, someday all the urbanites will be driving
electric pedal-cars and legislating the smackdown
on us V8 rompin' yahoos for giving them ***** envy.

Damn man, Cali is not the place to be if you want a loud exhaust! Shorties or a cutout or both.
