Default Headers and oil pan for 2nd gen camaro w/ 6.0L?

Hey I'm wondering if anyone can help me? I'm wondering what headers I should use with an LQ9 in a 72 camaro? The car sits pretty low, I have clearance issues with my long tubes on my sbc as it is, so something shorter would be better. Also which pan should I use? I am going to run the transdapt plates, I am thinking the f-body pan will work, but does anyone have more advice for me?

Help?

I've seen people use Pacesetters for a 4th gen F-body, but when I put them on my brother's 73 Camaro LS1 swap; they were a ton tighter than I expected. I'm not sure if there is a specific 70-82 header, but I think if I were to buy one to test, I would by the Hooker 1st gen LS1 header kit. Being that some SBC headers fit on both chassis, I believe it to be highly possible the Hookers have a chance of fitting.

Ditto on the F-body oil pan.

If I were to buy new pacesetters to test, I would buy the uncoated so that you can modify them if needed. Then coat/paint them later.

Hookers for a first gen probably wont work because the first gens are rear steer. I used the pacesetters and turned the collectors in with some heating and bending, then sent them out for coating. It wasnt much work and I am pretty happy with the overall fit. Could also depend what mounts are used. I made my own based off the 4th gen frame stands. Also, I used the stock 4th gen f body oil pan.

I currently have the Hooker LS conversion headers installed in my '67 Camaro (running it N/A before the turbo kit gets put on). I guess I could pull them off and test them in my brothers '73 Camaro and see if/how they would fit. I believe 2nd gens probably have more header clearance due to the lack of rear-steer. FWIW, the only close spot on the Hookers with the 1st gen is near the steering box, nothing a ball-peen hammer cannot fix easily.

Speaking of motor mounts, on my bro's '73 we used the Trans-Dapt (S+P Style) adapters bolted to his original SBC engine-side motor mount brackets. I also used them on my conversion but with solid mounts for now, the poly didn't make it in time.

I'll look into heating the pacesetters for the 2nd gen, his ended up closer to the body than I thought, like the engine was too high? If it were just 1/2" lower it would probably work fine, but unlike the older GM rubber/poly/solid engine mounts, you cannot just flip the 2nd gen mounts over to lower the engine.

thanks, thats some good advice. i have the trans-dapt plates and i might be able to get a good deal on some hooker 98 and up f-body headers.. would these work?
for the oil pan, i can't find an f-body one but i can get a corvette one. i think its an 02 and its a non-batwing. so i think its an ls2, would this clear?

I'm just finishing up my LS2 install (73 RS). Here's what I used.

Plates and headers from Edelbrock, no mods, drop in. They have the best price for SS headers out there. Any other headers will require major mods.

Plates: EDL-6701, $65
Headers: EDL-65073, $600

F-body oil pan and accessories. The f-body pan is a slam dunk, as if it were made for the car. Haven't heard anything on the CTS pan.

98-03 F-Body oil pan (kit with bolts/gasket), 12598151, $159.38
98-03 F-Body windage tray oil deflector, 12558253, $14.49
98-03 F-Body oil pump pick-up w/screen, 12558251, $27.81
98-03 F-Body dipstick, 12551581, $8.76
98-03 F-Body dipstick tube w/o-ring seal, 12551577, $5.72

There are a lot of different options and a lot of claims. Every other part I've bought, aside from the headers and pan, had to be modified or tweaked, gets frustrating. There are a lot of garage engineered parts out there, so be prepared. Hope this helps.

Hey Shovelhead73. Do you have any pics of those Edlebrock #65073 headers????
I'm struggling with mine and would really love a bolt on shorty set instead of modifying (heating & bending) the Pacesetter 4th gen long tubes that everyone seems to be using.
Thanks much!!

What about the Corvette "batwing" pan, does it clear ok?

I just bought one off eBay complete for $151 so I hope I didn't screw up trying to save a buck
