how much streetability w/ 4.30 gears
im ordering a 12 bolt tomorrow and am trying to decide what gears to get. how much streetability would 4.30 gears have? i know there wouldnt be much power from a highway punch, but down low it would be a kickin the pants. i only run 1/8 mile so i know i will be in 4th in the 1/8th. what do yall think

I have 4.10s in my 12 bolt in my 99 SS and its actually easier to drive then with the stock 3.42s. When I am on the highway in 6th gear I don't have to downshift to pass a car. 6th gear is actually usable. Pulling away from a light (standstill) is easier to. My RAM clutch has some chatter due to the aggressive 6130 disk and the gears make it easier to start moving. I would bet the 4.30s would be even sweeter. You may have to grab 5th in the 1/4 mile though, depending on your combo's mph potential. You can forget about traction on the street though. I spin through 3rd on street tires with my 4.10s, 4.30s would be worse. I would think you'll need at least drag radials for daily driving, and they won't hold when you hammer it.

loved my 4.56's for the track and street, but there are probably not for everyone. was at about 6500 in 4th at 123mph in the 1/4. switching to 4.10's for my new added power
