Jury rig ram air for non-ws6 hood?
I haven't really gotten any kind of response so maybe it's more appropriate in this forum than the firebird forum.....
I see a few threads on home made ram air systems for camaros, but I haven't been able to find a verson for the firebird/trans am nose. I'm talking the non-ws6 hood. I'm trying to see if anyone has fabricated their own FTRA/SSRA style of ducting without spending much money.
Has anyone done this? Or is there something about buying the pre-made piece that i'm missing?
If nothing turns up, I'm gonna try it myself and see what I can do. Most designs seem to involve dryer hose....could I just make a sheetmetal plate to replace the bottom of the airbox and run a couple of well placed tubes down similar to the sux2beu thing for camaros?

The thing I have trouble understanding is that all these "turns" in these ram air systems negate the ramming effect.
Maybe its the increase in pressure to the system. I don't know.
It mostly just looks like a way not to get as much hot air in your intake when you're sitting at the drag strip.

while turns do affect flow....you're still getting a ram air effect. which is nothing more than a small pressurized flow of air.
i mean a turbo has bends in the tubes leading up to the engine...but its still pressurized.
if i were you (OP), i would just save up the $$ for the tried, true and tested SSRA or FTRA.
for now just do the FRA mod and go from there.
i'm very pleased with my SSRA

So nobody has done a version of camaro "home depot ram air" for the firebirds huh?
OK..... time to see what I can come up with.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to see them. easier construction = better, but If it comes down to it I'll probably just make the sheetmetal.
