Default summit rebuild kit and GM heavy duty timing set

im looking into doing a basic rebuild on a 100,000 mile 95 LT1, replacing all the gaskets and what not, and i found the rebuild kit on summit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
Is this kit worth the cash? Are those hyperutic pistons that come with it any good? And whats the piston size for a stock 95 z28 LT1 from a camaro? I know the timig sets good, but i dont know if theres a better rebuild kit from another company that possibly upgrades the pistons etc. thanks for the input!

i didnt use that when i rebuilt my engine. i pieced every part together. it was alot more expensive but i didnt skimp on any parts. everything is top notch. stock bore is 4.000" if the pistons are in good shape then you could reuse them. if the oil pumps in good shape just get the GM white spring for it. if you plan on doing some heavy racing with the engine id change out the pistons

OP, is there a reason why you want to do a full rebuild? 100k miles is not that much. You could just replace all the seals if you have good oil pressure and good compression.

If you want to do a full rebuild, what's your budget? What is your power goal?

if ur rebuilding ur engine and have ur crank journals machined, then the main and rod bearings in this kit wont work since they r standard size, u will need to get 0.010 undersized bearings part # (FEM-4663M10) & (FEM-2555CP10).
pistons looks fine at least they r forged. but beware of the oil pump in this kit it is a high volume which is not recommended if ur having the stock oil pan.

I used a kit similar to the one you posted when I rebuilt my motor. Not the best kit you can get, but for someone on a tight budget and time limitations (both of which were on my list) it worked great. Has everything you need. The only thing I did was pick out a different set of KB forged pistons with a higher compression. When you order, you can pick different size mains or rod bearings, which I also had to do. Summit was real helpful and completely willing to change out the parts (as long as you pay any necessary difference lol). I do wish I had picked a better quality set of head gaskets (not that I have had any problems with mine just didn't take time to think it out).

I am running the cc503 with bolt ons and plan to throw the bottle on in the near future. The motor should hold up just fine. Also, make sure you go with ARP fasteners and what not.

Why not just save the money for when you really need a good build? You're only at 100k, you still have plenty of mileage left on that shortblock.
