I have an '02 as well and I'm going w/ the GM MLS. If you want to bump compression a little you could go with some thinner cometics. I've heard this gives you a better quench too.

It depends on what you want to do with it. I like running higher compression so with my current setup im running .045 cometics for just under 11:1, with the new shortblock im installing this week it has valve reliefs so now im going to mill the heads and run .040s for about 11.1:1. There are alot of compression calculators to find the right compression.

Personally I would only run the MLS like the GM MLS or Cometic which is what I use because the cleanup is simple if you swap heads later.

The GM gaskests are good because they coat them with a light sealant at the edges of the sealing points to help stop seepage, Cometics are available in a variety of thicknesses though. So if you want to stick with the stock thickness gasket, go with GM MLS. Thinner go with the cometics. GM is much MUCH cheaper as well.

I ordered my cometic gaskets in a .051 thickness which is stock thickness. They offer the thickness from .040 to .051 I believe. But whatever works for you man.

The GM MLS gaskets are the same technology as the Cometics, not sure why you would get the same thickness gasket at double the price...

But thats just me...

I want to keep the stock thickness because I like the extra security of having a copper gasket that will not change compression ratio. If you go with a thinner gasket you will slightly increase compression. I want the extra thickness as well because I am planning on doing forced induction down the road and can reuse these gaskets...my reasoning is justified.

Sry my mistake. I've got copper gaskets on my forged sbc 355 at home, so that's what I refer to... Whatever you go with I'm sure it will hold. Don't think too much about it.
