Default LS6, Longtubes, EGR/AIR Debacle

I have a 2000 Camaro SS and already have an LS6 intake. Im looking at new headers and know that once I change the intake the EGR must go. Now my question is should I buy headers with emissions and block off the EGR but keep the AIR? Or should I buy race headers and trash both systems? Can you even keep the AIR once the EGR is deleted? What would be the more reasonable route, buying block-off plates or paying for a tune to delete the SES code once the emissions are gone? Any help is greatly appreciated, Im just trying to make the right decision.

If you want to keep your AIR System, order headers w/emissions for a 01-02 F-body. The Camaro and Firebirds of those years didn't have an EGR System, but did retain the AIR System. I contemplated doing this when I installed my headers, but I don't have an LS6 Intake yet, so I went with a set for the same year as my 99 Formula. I guess I'll have to use a block-off plate when I upgrade my intake.

I just installed ARH long tube off road and LS6 intake. I removed all the egr and air pump stuff and eliminated about 50 lbs. of garbage. The tuner eliminated the SES lights and she is good to go.

i agree with last post. i got a LS6 vette intake without egr, just deleted codes and bought headers without the smog provisions. they look sweet!

dont really need either system. air just clutters up the engine compartment. i would get race headers and eliminate the AIR since you have to tune out EGR anyways.

Cool Hedman Tork-Step long tubes for LS1

Check out the Hedman Tork-Step long tubes with 1 5/8" primary tubes that step up to 1 3/4" with a 3" collector.
Regular painted black part# 68534 or HTC ceramic coated part# 66534.
These Tork-Steps will NOT have any A.I.R. nor E.G.R. connections.
But, if you decide to keep all of the emissions component conections then you must use an emissions compatible header which are all shorties style.
Shorties part# 68551 painted black or # 66551 HTC ceramic coated will both have the 1 5/8" primary tubes with a stock style collector.

Exactly what I did! Unless where you live is very strict on visual, as long as you get a tuner to take care of deleting the code, you will be good to go for inspection!

It will pass, if you get a good tune it will probably run cleaner than stock

Get rid of that crap. Your hands will thank you later. And it also makes the engine bay look so much nicer. I kept all mine in case i ever need it for some reason, but other than that, it's useless crap i think.
