A high quality buffer, 3m Finesse it compound for dark colors, and then a good wax job by hand will be pretty much all you can do. Black is a tough color to deal with. There will always be a little bit of swirl action left,

Agreed, Black is awesome but needs constant attention, my NBM is a PITA to keep perfect and I just decided to deal with it. Until you move to lighter colors such as Silver, Yellow, Pewter, or even Red, your really going to see the Swirls.

+1 NBM sucks ***** I buff it and get it perfect then after a few very careful washes it still starts getting messed up again.

Yea, my hood was done and after even quick detailing it, you can seen fine swrils. No biggie but you notice it.

Me To! I wonder why the damn hood gets all f'ed up so easy? NBM is a bad *** color though. If you buff it with a Porter Cable and look really close into the paint you can see so many flakes, its looks all 3D like it had its own little galaxy in the paint

If you use Menzerna Intense Polish and then follow with their Final Polish II with a Porter Cable orbital buffer, it really does a good job of removing the swirl marks. I have used on my previous 2000 Trans Am and my current 2001 Trans Am.

meguiars swirlX! my friend tried compounding his entire hood with polishing compound but used too much pressure and an old t-shirt to apply it with. of course he did it in a pretty dim garage too so he didn't realize it was doing damage until it was done. he came over and we re-compounded it all and waxed it and it looked okay. still tons and tons of swirls but not terrible. used swirlX today and it's honestly amazing. i did one small section to test and honestly couldn't believe it. the difference was almost as extreme as the picture on the bottle. it was on a black car too btw.

For best results I highly recommend a machine with foam pads. Buff with white compound (white waffle pad) if needed, then use 3M Perfect-It Ultrafina SE (blue waffle pad) which is an awesome swirl remover and finish with your favorite wax. (Klasse high gloss sealant)

What??? Swirl marks are fine scratches in the clear coat, or paint if single stage. They are not permanent. The compounds are like super super fine liquid sand paper. That's why you can obtain different cuts. Granted you are removing a little paint when you do this but if done right, were talking mils. They come back over time from normal washing and drying etc. You are hand washing right?? Maybe they changed it, crap, are scratches permanent now??

Exactly!BAD2000TA!! I have the entire line at my house (Intensive Polish, Final Polish II, Glaze and FMJ) Finish it off with a good quality wax, makes a world's difference...

I wouldn't say the swirls are permanent, what polishing does is take the sharp angles off the swirl marks on the clearcoat.

Try to find someone who knows how to do a "proper" detail. Sometimes people call it "cutting" the clear coat. It is a time consuming process but when done right, It looks amazing.

Good luck, keep us posted

did a black suv today with a ton of swirls and scratches. the owner buffed it with new finish. I hit it with a dewalt rotary with a foam pad and the swirl remover by Presta. I got it from a paint supply place at the reccomendation of my painter, came out perfect with zero machine swirls, all it takes is the right product and some time
