Question Do I really need aftermarket Lifters?

im just wanting you guys opinions on this
its for a 347 with PP stageII 5.3's and a TSP 231/237
im kinda iffy on them, since i havent seen many topics concerning aftermarket lifters

If you do recommend me using them, what about the "Comp R's" ?

TIA
-Jason

I've never had any trouble using stock lifters.

Comp Rs are supposed to be very good though.

Really comes down to what spring pressure you are running most of the springs used on these cars dont have enough spring pressure to use an aftermarket lifter.

so far i like the opinions
i honestly dont know the brand of the springs that Patriot puts in the heads
all i know is that they now have dual springs standard

but i think i will stick to the stockers and save a few bucks...maybe use that for some HAL's or something

thanks guys

If your car's a 1998, you may want to look into lifter replacement if the mileage is up there. Is there anything wrong with keeping the stockers? Probably not but the "R's" are a much cheaper replacement than the stock ones are. Just my thought. I plan on replacing mine with 60K on the originals.

good point, it does have 65k miles.
i guess when i tear it apart next weekend, the wear on them will be the determining factor
I checked the prices and the compR's are only $15 more than the comp stock replacements
if i do buy them, ill gladly pay the extra

Stock lifters can go a long way. We have run 170lbs on the seat with stock lifters and the car went 9.87. Just depends on how good of shape they are in.

Dont you need to use adjustable rockers with Comp R's? I've heard they like hardly any preload.
