Default 98 LS1 Alterntor Question, please Help..

Searched all the forum and found no definitive answer, maybe an electrical guru can chime in here. I am installing a 98 LS1 motor in a 66 Nova using the stock alternator. The red exciter wire goes to the stock PCM. If not using the PCM connection, what needs to be connected to this wire, I have seen, a light bulb, and a 480 OHM resistor......so which is it....also is this switched hot, or constant hot +12V....Help...

Thanks,
