pretty sure you can use your headers and y pipe, dont believe the turbo has anything to do with them

Turbos love heat (check the first paragraph of Working Principles in Wikipedia for a simplified but mostly correct explanation). Heat will both increase power and decrease spin up time, a.k.a. lag. Headers loose heat, but wrapping everything with header wrap and exhaust wrap (DEI makes some good wraps) can minimize the loss, increasing power and decreasing spin up time.

As stated above turbo's love heat. I had a STS on my TA and i had long tubes, which i totally regret. I would stick with the stock manifolds. Next i would wrap that exhaust as stated above, your lag time will be noticeably less. TRT(Texas Rear Turbo) used to have intercoolers, thats where i got mine from. This will deff help everything.

AFA an intercooler, you can find some really great deals on fleabay. They are not quite as efficient as the one the dealers (and sponsors) sell, but at 1/4 the price I suggest they are worth it. Just look for a good seller (there is one listed in this section, but I forget the name) and you will be quite pleased. You will have to fabricate your mounts, but it's not that big a deal. You might check out ZL1killa's thread for some suggestions. He has done some good work and posted some very good pics.
BTW, TRT went bye-bye last year. Unfortunately, since they seemed like a decent company.

I have the 4" FMIC from TRT, sad that they went away. Get rid of the headers and go to stock mani's/wrapped exhaust. As was stated the lag improves greatly.

I believe the updated kit now comes with a intercooler. As for the headers, you'd be better off with the stock manifolds.
